OK, so this time, I’m following everyone’s advise and starting off in Word so I don’t lose the whole d@mn report! And, yes, I’m sitting here in my purple flannel jammies while I do it.

Let me say first off, that we really liked the Azul. We’ve been going to the Riviera Maya long before anyone thought to give it a name … about 20 years ago. Even though it isn’t for everyone, I will admit that we like to do the AI thing. We’ve been to many places in the past before AI’s were so popular and found that we often spent too much time trying to decide where to eat or spending too much money. It allows us to have food/drinks at our fingertips and leave the wallet in the safe. We use the resort as a place to become beach slugs and completely chill out or we’ve done lots of side trips too. The AI’s we’ve been to include: Club Oasis Akumal (now the GORM?), Diamond Village (now the Allegro in Playacar) twice, Moon Palace twice, the old Eldorado at Kantenah, Riu Playacar, Sunscape Tulum (now Dreams), Bahia Principe Akumal, and Azul. Prior to Azul, I would have said that the Sunscape had the best food but Azul has surpassed it in food and service.

We arrived at Cancun airport at 11:30 on a Saturday morning with no lineup at Immigration! No other arrivals at the same time? Wooohooo! I took this as a very good omen. We flashed our passports with a big smile and zipped through to the luggage carrousel for a short wait (thank goodness since last time Skyservice left my husband’s suitcase in T.O. so I had to share my undies with him all week ….well that’s another story )…. green light yay ….. dodge the time share folks, no eye contact is the trick …. and we’re outta there! Now we have to lineup for our included transportation but once again, yay, we get a van with 4 other couples and we’re off. Side note: my sweetie had to sit beside a somewhat pissy (can I say that?) woman who was ticked off that he got a seatbelt and she didn’t …. oh dear, hope they’re not at the Azul, things have been going so well … they weren’t thank goodness !

After a short 20 minutes, we turn off hwy 307 (before the one for Puerto Morelos). It’s a long road through mangrove and unfortunately not condusive to walking back out to the highway to catch a colectivo. The first dropoff is at Desires which is right next door to Azul. The back of Desires is “protected” by lagoons full of crocodiles. I kid you not! Lots of them …. some quite large. Not sure if they’re used to keep the voyeurs out or the nekkid folks in! We found out later that one should not go walking at night back up the road since those crocs like to go for a walkabout on the warm pavement!

So, we’re next for drop off and we’re greeted in the lovely lobby with warm moist towels and cold champagne … how very civilized (& classy). As we’re registering, I notice with a sinking feeling that none of my usual requests (top floor, king bed, non smoking, oceanview) are on the registration form. I had booked this at the last minute on Wednesday and we left on Saturday so our tickets were an airport pickup. However, as my eyes scanned the form, I noticed those words that are near and dear to my heart … “complimentary upgrade” … another wooohooo! We paid for a superior room and received a deluxe oceanfront room … why? Don’t know but the hotel was only about half full.

Now begins the amazing service. We’re told that check-in is at 3pm and it’s about 1pm so they will try to get our room made up as soon as possible but it will probably be about 1.5 hours so go and enjoy lunch and the beach and “we will come and find you”! Not “come back to the lobby”! And they did … we were dozing in the hammocks on the beach when I realized Alejandro was standing beside me gently saying our room was ready.

Merci pour ces informations, mais manifestement, ce n'est pas de cet hôtel dont je parle. Je pars dans un endroit beaucoup plus...modeste disons ! (voir Partir Pas Cher).

Bonjour à tous,

nous sommes rentrés de Playa del Carmen ou nous avons passé 15 jours formidables.
L'hôtel Azul est un charmant petit hôtel de 19 chambres, proche de tout, propre, les propriétairess ont sympas. Séjour très agréable.

Mais...nous avons oublié un blouson là bas...
Mon chéri y tient particulièrement, et ce serait vraiment hyper sympa si quelqu'n acceptait de se porter volontaire pour nous le ramener. La patronne la garde en attendant qu'un parisien le prenne dans sa valise.

Un très grand merci d'avance à la personne qui se portera volontaire !
