Hi everyone,
In a month, I’m heading to Greenland with Rivages du Monde.
My question is: which airport do we fly out of to get to Iceland—Orly or Roissy?
Thanks to anyone who’s already traveled with this tour operator for this destination and can let me know.
Have a great day
Si le chemin est difficile, le difficile est le chemin.
You're getting to know Rivages du Monde's practices! They always keep information hidden until the last minute. The same will go for your entire cruise.
Excursion schedules are only revealed the night before after 9 PM. And if you dare to ask at the counter and insist, they get annoyed. In that case, they'll tell you that given your age, even if they give you the information, you'll have forgotten it by the next day.
Even if the weather is beautiful—like the weather we had—they don't hesitate to cancel stops or forbid passengers from going ashore under the pretext of passenger safety. While passengers from other boats were disembarking, Rivages du Monde passengers were confined to the ship in front of Ilulissat, with no permission to go ashore or contact local providers.
I invite you to read my travel journal: Review of a miserable cruise with Rivages du Monde in Iceland and Greenland, which I wrote after returning from this Greenland cruise to uncover the unimaginable methods and surprises this company has in store.
Back then, we departed from Orly, but the airline name and flight weren’t revealed until the very last moment. But there’s no guarantee it’ll be the same airport for you. They always go for the cheapest option at the last minute.
Don’t be too discouraged, Evajules4yne. I was just chatting yesterday about my upcoming kayaking expedition to Sermilik this summer with my favorite peach and apricot producer when another customer chimed in to say they’d traveled with this cruise line to Greenland and loved it.
So don’t worry too much, Evajules—your trip might turn out great. (Even if I still think a sailboat is a much better way to explore this stunning island.)
The main thing about a trip is that everyone finds what they’re looking for.
Will you post a travel journal about your trip on VF? I’d love to read it. I adore your expeditions, even if I wouldn’t enjoy traveling in the spartan conditions you love.
Yeah, it's planned, but more on FV. We leave in 2 days—same old mix of excitement and stress as usual.
This time, we're bringing two of our older kids along with our youngest's partner. We'll be a big enough group to take night watches, which is definitely safer than last time when we relied only on motion detectors.
We're thrilled to show them this amazing country, but we also feel responsible for safety.
Anyway, D-2...
It’s going to be a magnificent experience and totally different. Being several people will be better for safety as well as for sharing.
Too bad I won’t be able to read your travel journal—I don’t go on this forum anymore; it’s got a very narrow-minded vibe.
I wish you a wonderful trip and I’m really happy for you.
Hi there,
I’ve already traveled to Iceland, both on land tours and to meet up with Ponant, but I still haven’t found a direct Paris-Reykjavik flight anywhere other than at Roissy—specifically with Icelandair.
And their prices are so elitist!! There’s ONE flight a week with Transavia...... but from Orly, and also ONE flight a week with easyJet departing from Manchester!!
Bottom line, only your RdM agency has the right answer!
Safe travels! !
Si vous ne réussissez jamais rien du premier coup, n'essayez pas le parachutisme !
What I know: departure from Roissy and a charter flight.
So based on the info some people shared with me, charter flights leave from Terminal 3.
I’ve flown out of Terminals 2 and 1 many times and never bothered to check what leaves from Terminal 3.
Now I know, and if everything’s as planned, I’m just a 5-minute walk from my hotel!
Can’t wait for the 18th—my wife and I are really looking forward to this kind of destination after visiting Svalbard, northern Norway in winter, and Antarctica.
Two previous attempts to get to Greenland didn’t work out—once because of COVID, once because of health issues—so this time…
