Hi, I’d like to visit Quebec this fall or starting in August (what do you recommend?). I’d love to meet some Quebecers and get some tips on transportation. I’m wondering if it’s doable with an electric mountain bike (not too much rain?). I’m planning to buy one second-hand and return it afterward. If there are any travel buddies out there too...thanks

Hi, In my humble opinion, autumn is the best time for the colors (especially since the last few years have had particularly pleasant autumns!) For transportation, you can use intercity buses (if you don’t want to rent a car). Check out Eleni13’s trip reports—she’s done several trips without a car. As for mountain biking, that doesn’t seem like the best idea!! Quebec is *huge* (like, it’s a 12-hour drive between Montreal and Gaspésie... by car, so by bike... well...)

Hey Thierry,

Thanks for choosing Quebec as your travel destination! 👍

Visiting in the fall is a great choice, as Caribous mentioned. Plus, fall is also VTT (ATV) or quad season—probably because of hunting season too. By the way, I’d recommend checking out the official hunting periods in Quebec. Some regions you might want to visit (or avoid) for the same reasons 😅

To enjoy these activities, you’ll need to head away from big cities or at least to the suburbs. And don’t forget to pack the right clothes—though I’m sure you’ve already thought of that since you mentioned rain. Yes, fall can be rainy, but it’s not constant. We’ve had some really dry autumns too. 🤷‍♂️

I also looked on Facebook for you, and there are several groups where people share info about ATVs. I’d suggest joining and asking your questions. There’s one group called *Passionnés de QUAD du Québec* (Quebec ATV Enthusiasts), among others. You might find details on rentals, purchases, trails, etc.—who knows? 😊

Finally, if you’re passing through Montreal or up north, I’d be happy to show you around Montreal and the lower Laurentians, depending on our schedules, of course. We’ll see what we can do based on your interests. Speaking of which, if you check out Eleni’s travel journals, you’ll see she mentions me a few times 😄😉

Anyway, feel free to ask your questions here. And once you have an idea of your dates and regions, let us see your itinerary!

Best regards, 😊👋

Thanks so much for your really detailed answers! And yeah, walks in the middle of hunting areas aren’t really my thing... I’ll keep thinking about it, and maybe see you soon, Jean.

If I'm not mistaken, the abbreviation ATV doesn’t have the same meaning in Quebec as it does in France. For us in Quebec, when we talk about an ATV, we’re referring to an all-terrain motorized vehicle—commonly called a four-wheeler! I think in France, an ATV is a mountain bike? A mountain bike, as we say here.

Maybe I’m wrong, but just to be sure we’re on the same page ;)
