Nous devons partir en septembre vivre définitivement à Antananarivo à Madagascar. Nous partons avec deux enfants de 7 et 3 ans.
Faut'il se protéger en permanence jour et nuit pour le palu, la dengue et le chik ? (oralement avec un traitement et localement avec les répulsifs et les moustiquaires).
A priori, dans la capitale même, il n'y aurait pas trop de problème ? et les gens qui y habitent en permanence ne se protègent pas. Par contre, je sais que si on bouge vers la côte, alors là, il faut se protéger jour et nuit.
Pourriez-vous me donner des infos et me dire s'il faut être très vigilant même dans le centre de la capitale ? Faut-il que je mette tous les jours du répulsif sur mes filles qui iront à l'école et dormir sous des moustiquaires la nuit ?

une precision que je suis surpris que tu ne connais pas
l anophele (moutique femelle vecteur du palu) ne pique que du crepucule a l aube donc la premiere chose a faire c est dormir sous une moustiquaire impregnee
il est rare d etre pique par les moustiques de jours (sauf zones tres infestes)
si tu vis sur place tu ne pourras pas prendre des antipaludeens sur une longue periode (gros pbs effets secondaires)
protections c est les repulsifs qui sont tres efficaces
voir forum sante plus bas dans la liste des forum tu sauras tout

Pas de panique pour les moustiques. Mes 3 filles de 3, 5 et 7 ans ne prennent rien et ne s'en portent pas plus mal.
A Tana plus qu'ailleurs, les principes de bases suffisent : moustiquaires, ça oui, je vous le conseille, en tout cas de décembre à mars, manches longues le soir, et ca suffit bien. C'est déjà bien assez compliqué de faire comprendre à une gamine de 2 ans qu'il faut s'habiller alors qu'il fait 35°C. Moi j'ai pas réussi, elle s'est faite bouffée allègrement par les moustiques et elle est toujours là, bon pieds bon oeil !
Donc ne pas se ruiner avec la Malarone non remboursée. Au pire, pour les virées sur la côte est, vous trouverez tout ce qu'il faut ici.
Pour l'arrivée et l'adaptation, prévoyez quand même quelques anti-diarrétique, tout le monde y passe.
Et autre chose, quand vous arriverez à Tana en août pour vous installer et préparer la rentrée, prévoyez les pulls, ça caille à fond !...

Tout d'abord je voulais te remercier pour ton mail et pour toutes tes précieuses infos. En fait, je t'explique la situation en 2 mots (voire plus...) : nous partons vivre à Tana dans la capitale même pour environ 4 ans, dans le cadre d'une mutation professionnelle de mon mari, vers septembre - octobre 2007. Avec nous partent nos deux filles: 7 et 3 ans. C'est nous qui avons souhaité partir à Mada et c'est un choix réfléchi de notre part. Malgré cela, j'appréhende beaucoup ce changement de vie, surtout à cause de nos filles qui sont petites.
En fait, je n'arrête pas d'avoir des versions différentes, notamment sur la prévention des maladies.
Pour l'institut Pasteur de Paris (c'est là que j'habite), il faut que nous prennions de la Savarine pour toute la famille lorsque nous arriverons, c'est à dire de novembre à avril, pendant toute la saison des moussons. Après on arrête le traitement et on le reprend ponctuellement sur les côtes si on y va. Et puis, selon Pasteur, je suis obligée de dormir sous une moustiquaire, de prendre des répulsifs en permanence et autres produits. Dans la journée pour la Dengue, Pasteur n'en a pas parlé. En bref selon eux, il faut se protéger beaucoup.
L'autre version que j'ai eu (d'après ce que j'ai entendu, lire, renseigner ou des contacts que nous avons sur place), l'institut Pasteur exagère un peu !
Les français qui habitent Tana en permanence (je dis bien que sur la capitale), ne prennent pas de Savarine pendant la mousson, ni même lors de leur arrivée. Selon ce que j'ai pu entendre le traitement est inutile car il n'y aurait pas de Palu à Tana car c'est situé sur des plateaux, à une altitude élevée (1250 Mètres) et que donc les risques sont pratiquement inexistants ou très faibles. Pour ce qui est de dormir sous une moustiquaire, mes contacts sur place ne le font pas, car selon eux peu de moustiques et les répulsifs c'est bon pour la côte uniquement.
Pour la Dengue (moustiques qui piquent dans la journée), il n'y en aurait pas dans la capitale, donc pas besoin de se protéger dans la journée. Mais là aussi, il paraîtrait que cela commence à arriver dans la capitale et que donc il serait préférable peut-être de se protéger également dans la journée i (donc protection jour et nuit ? si c'est le cas, ce sera très lourd pour mes filles !).
Pour le traitement du palu avec la Savarine que préconise Pasteur pour notre arrivée, beaucoup de gens me disent que c'est de la folie de faire cela pendant 5 à 6 mois, avec mes filles. Que c'est inutile, vu l'altitude et avec beaucoup d'effets secondaires...
Pour résumé, je ne sais pas quoi faire : Soit on est très vigilant, donc très lourd pour nous ou l'institut Pasteur "ouvre le parapluie" pour se protéger en cas de pépin ?
Y a t'il réellement beaucoup de cas de palu et de Dengue à la capitale ?
Pour répondre à ta question sur les écoles, nous voulions les inscrire à l'école française A, mais le problème c'est que les écoles A, B, C ou D n'ont pas de petite section et ne commençent qu'à partir de la MS. Comme nous ne voulions pas les séparer, pour cette 1ère année, elles iront à une école française simplement homologuée qui est l'école de la Francophonie (PS et CE1). La 2ème année, elles réintégreront l'école A.
Pour notre arrivée, nous irons vivre dans des hôtels où ils ont des appartements, résidences familliales pour environ 15 jours, le temps pour moi de trouver une maison à louer dans les secteurs et quartiers de l'école A et de la Francophonie. Si tu as des hôtels dans ce coin qui font des appartements familiaux, n'hésite pas à me donner les coordonnées. J'ai trouvé une résidence très bien qui s'appelle LA RESIDENCE (ANKERANA), mais elle me paraît un peu loin et on aura de la route à faire. Le travail de mon mari est juste à côté de l'école A. Pour ma part, je ne suis pas une prof, je suis assistante médicale.
Sinon, concernant d'autres infos, ou contact, association, adresses divrses, adresse déménageur internationnal, logement, achat d'une voiture d'occasion, N° de tel pour les taxis (et chauffeur éventuel), association pour faire de l'humanitaire dans le domaine médical et de la santé (je suis assistante médicale); je suis preneuse de TOUT. J'ai cru comprendre que tu habite à Mada, donc si tu as des infos de toutes sortes à me donner, n'hésite pas, j'en serais ravie et cela m'aidera énormément.
Je sais que je t'en demande beaucoup et tu réponds uniquement si tu en as le temps, sinon tu laisses tomber, je me débrouillerai.

Pour info, j'ai 35 ans et ce voyage sera un grand bouleversement de vie, mais bon nous l'avons voulu ! J'ai un peu peur pour mes filles. (dis-moi si tu as le temps, comment cela se passe avec tes enfants et à quelle école sont-elles ?).

pour le chick et la dengue c est essentiellement dans l est de l ile de tamatave a diego en saison des pluies
j ai vecu a mada de 1965 a 1969 avec mes parents et ma soeur plus jeunes a tana on ne prenait aucun antipaludeens a l epoque on faisait bruler les anti moustiques a la periode de la saison des pluies
je le repete a mada et principalement sur les plateaux dans la journee c est extremement rare d etre pique
donc pour tes filles je pense pas qu il y ai un pb
je comprends ton inquietude si tu t expatrie pour la premiere fois mais il faut pas non plus tomber dans la parano a mada vive a peut pres 25000 a 30000 français et la plus grande partie pres des cotes sans plus de pbs qu en france sauf que si pbs grave (sante) il faut prevoir un rapatriement a la reunion car les hopitaux gasy sont pas tres bien equipes (mais les medecins gasy sont competents surtout pour les maladies tropicales)

We're about to go on an organized trip to South Africa, including Kruger Park. We were told that Malarone should preferably be taken in the evening at the same time during a meal. But it's hard to know what time we'll have dinner, especially since I've read that in South Africa, dinner is usually around 6 PM.
I'd love to hear from people who've been on organized trips to this destination and could share their experience. We were thinking of taking Malarone around 7:30 PM, assuming dinner would be closer to 7 PM than 6 PM. Also, if the meal ends up being earlier or later than when we take the pill, would a cookie or a piece of bread be enough to take with Malarone?
I’m planning to set off on a "round-the-world" trip/long journey at the start of next year, lasting between 4.5 and 6 months. For now, the itinerary looks like this: South Korea (2 weeks) -> Japan (1 month) -> New Zealand (1 month) -> Argentina (1 month) -> United States (1 month).
I’m on medication (paroxetine 20 mg/day) and was hoping to bring enough for the entire trip so I wouldn’t have to find a doctor on the spot, deal with a molecule that might be slightly different from what’s available in France, or wonder if that’s even a possibility. Basically, it seemed simpler on paper...
But after looking into the regulations for each country, it’s suddenly way less simple . Many seem to only allow the amount corresponding to the length of your "stay" in the country... Which is a problem if I arrive in Korea with 4.5 months’ worth of medication, for example.
After all that, and even though I’ll obviously contact the relevant authorities in each country (fingers crossed for a response 😛), here’s my question:

I have several chronic conditions (including asthma and related ones), and I’m planning to travel for a year across different countries.
Generally, I understand it’s possible to travel with approved medications (which should be my case), but often with a limit of 3 months’ worth of treatment.
Since I’m going for 12 months, that means for three-quarters of my trip, I’d have more than 3 months’ worth of medication.
I plan to bring my prescriptions with the INN (International Nonproprietary Name), as well as the original packaging (even though it’s a nightmare, but from what I understand, it’s necessary). But I’m not sure if that’s enough...

It was recently confirmed that this is due to rabies.
The suspected origin is contamination in Namibia by jackals.
The contagion seems to be spreading.
Preventive vaccination (of the animals) is being considered.

Rabies affects all mammals.
Once symptoms appear—sometimes weeks or even months later—death is inevitable.
It’s the bite that transmits the disease.
There are so-called "furious" forms with aggression, but also forms without aggression.
In case of a bite, in addition to standard wound care, tetanus prevention… rabies prevention is essential.
