CLIFFS OF THE WORLD: January 2025 Photo Contest
FR

Translated into English.

Original post
MO
It's tough to find a fresh topic since so many themes have already been covered, so this one is intentionally narrow to highlight the photo—inspired by a recent visit ;)

**Participation** Each VF member can submit up to 3 photos, until **Saturday, January 25 at 11:59 PM Paris time**. Each photo must be posted in a separate message, with its number (1, 2, or 3). Don’t forget to add a little explanation (comment, location, etc.).

**Voting:** Each VF member can vote for the 3 photos they think are the best, based on their own criteria and the theme.

Voting runs from **Sunday, January 26 to Friday, January 31 at 11:59 PM Paris time**.

Photos should be ranked in order of preference: - 1st photo: 3 points - 2nd photo: 2 points - 3rd photo: 1 point

The winner is the photographer whose photo earns the most points.

Results will be announced on **February 1**. In case of a tie, the number of first-place votes will decide. The winner gets the honor of organizing February’s contest.

For discussion about the contest, check the thread: https://voyageforum.com/forum/discussion-falaises-monde-concours-janvier-2025-d10659248/

I’m kicking off this year’s first edition with a photo of Ha Long Bay. When Bruno revealed the theme, these thousands of karst islands plunging into the sea were a must for me. The challenge was choosing just one...

Except here, I don’t have the sea, so it’s off-topic. Sorry Catherine, I want water!

Anyway, I reread my messages—mea culpa—because even though I mentioned it (the battle of the sea against the land), it’s not in this post. So, to clarify: Cliffs of the World and the Sea Sorry Catherine, you can give a second N1 now 🏆 Good thing Michel85200 isn’t participating, or I’d have gotten Table Mountain

Hi Fred, and thanks for joining in! Don’t forget to number the photos so we can vote. And I had to Google Milford Sound to find Bowen Falls, which do indeed flow into the sea (but is it the sea or freshwater?). I don’t know this area, but it looks magical. Unfortunately, no sea, no photos—unless you’ve got another one where we can see the water… I know, I’m a pain, but it’s just for consistency’s sake ;)

Hello Haute-Savoie. Here’s the Alsace vote:

Attila photo 1 – three points Rouquine photo 2 – two points Montagnard 74 photo 3 – one point

Our jury is surprised and disappointed to find far more photos in the contest discussion thread than in the contest discussion thread. Especially since the voting result would’ve been different given the quality of some shots.

I had a bit of trouble inserting Poste42’s photos because the format didn’t work. That’s why they look different from the others.

Thanks Agnès for the slideshow. I didn’t get the “step 2” part, but yeah, we have to go down after the December contest to find ours.

Thanks to everyone who took part too—true, the discussion was livelier than the contest itself, but that’s how it goes. We’ll still find a winner!

Voting is now open! Have a great day everyone

Hi Bruno,

So:

Ragamuffin-2: 3 points. I love the photo—the smooth, almost metallic mirror of the sea, the vibrant red of the flowering bush in the foreground that echoes the ochre plaster of the house. And then, it’s Italy, and Curzio Malaparte.

Rouquine38-3: 2 points. Even though these are short, stocky cliffs, I think the photo is really well done—those shades of burnished green and gray, with the white of the house and the snow-capped mountain in the background, and the open fan of clouds.

And for the last one... tough choice...

Dolma-3: 1 point. For the serenity it exudes.

I also really liked Kate’s photo, all of Attila’s shots, and Michant’s photo of the calanques.

Catherine
