Je suis en train de préparer un voyage de qqls mois en Amérique du sud, sac à dos du genre baroudeur et je pense partir de Colombie ou d'Equateur (enfin je pars de Bruxelles😛) et descendre jusqu'en Argentine. je compte partir au mois de janvier 2015 et je me pose encore qqls questions d'ordre pratique:
- Existe t-il une "chaîne" d'auberge de jeunesse typiquement sud américaine?
- Quels sont les pays où le coushsurfing fonctionne et est-il rependu en Amérique du sud?
- Projeter de faire du camping "sauvage" est-il une folie dans certain pays? - Peut-on encore facilement combiner voyage et travail de qqls jours à qqls semaines, avec des assos humanitaire ou pas ( je suis menuisier, donc a priori un métier international) ?
J'aimerais faire ce voyage en partie en bus, en vélo et en moto, une petite cross achetée sur place ou loué. Y a t-il des personnes qui auraient déjà fait ce genre voyage en moto, parce que je suis dans le floue totale concernant les démarches à faire pour les assurances, le permis etc... sachant que je passerai probablement certaines frontières avec la moto.

Je peux te donner quelques infos pour ce qui est de voyager avec la moto, j'ai démarré mon voyage au Pérou, et je suis en ce moment en Bolivie, mais je roule avec ma moto envoyée en container à Lima.
Tu ne pourras pas passer les frontières avec une moto de location et je ne pense pas que tu puisses louer une moto à un point et la rendre ailleurs.
Je pense qu'il te faudra envisager l'achat si tu veux faire plusieurs pays à moto

Il te faut bien sur avoir le permis moto en Belgique et disposer d'un permis international.
Ensuite en Argentine, Chili, Bolivie et Pérou, il te faudra souscrire une assurance obligatoire appelée SOAT (Seguro Obligatorio de Acidentes de Transportes),
Le Pérou et la Bolivie, d'après ce que j'ai pu voir, ne proposent des SOAT que pour leur pays respectifs. Il semblerait qu'en Argentine tu puisses souscrire un Soat qui couvre plusieurs pays, mais je ne peux pas te l'assurer, car je vais normalement finir mon périple par l'Argentine.

Cependant, une autre question me viens tout de suite à l'esprit: comment as-tu fais pour passer la frontière, par exemple Pérou-Bolivie avec la SOAT du Pérou? Y a t-il moyen d'en prendre une SOAP pour la Bolivie à la frontière quand tu la passes? Ou te laisse t-on un délai pour en souscrire une en Bolivie.
Autre petite question, quel est +/- le prix d'une SOAP? sachant que je ne vais pas faire venir ma moto de Belgique au Pérou, j'ai une Suzuki SV et elle ne me semble pas très adapter pour une tel voyage, je pense acheter une cross du genre 250 cc sur place.

C'est avec plaisir, je suis à la Paz et j'ai un peu de temps car j'attends un paquet en poste restante.
En fait à la frontière Pérou/Bolivie, tout au moins à Yunguyo, le point de passage au milieu de lac Titicaca, l'immigration Bolivienne ne s'occupe que de ton passeport et la douane te donne un document te donnant le droit de rouler x jours en Bolivie, le SOAT ne semble pas de leur ressort.
Et à cet endroit, ni même à Copacabana, distante de 8 km, il n'est pas possible de souscrire un SOAT L'endroit le plus proche est La Paz
Par contre, deux jours plus tard, en quittant Copacabana, je me suis fait coincer au poste de police à la sortie de la ville pour contrôle, et là comme je n'avais pas ce fameux SOAT, j'ai du payer un pourboire/contravention/bakchich de 30 Bolivianos (4 euros), ce qui n'est pas excessif...
Mais il savaient qu'il était impossible que je l'aie et ils tirent parti de la situation avec le sourire.
Cela dit, tout le monde y passe, un Péruvien qui quittait également Copacabana a du s'acquitter lui aussi d'une "taxe" de quelques Bolivianos.
Après, pour ne pas rouler sans assurance, il est toujours possible de faire un aller retour Copacabana/La paz en bus !
A La Paz, j'ai pu acheter facilement un SOAT pour toute la Bolivie, valable 1 an pour 190 Bolivianos (22 euros) auprès de la compagnie Seguros Illumani, leur site web donne toutes les succursales, et l'adresse du bureau à la Paz :
Seguros Illimani , Lado banco Bisa, Av. Camacho, La Paz
C'est dans le centre et facile à trouver
Au Pérou, ce fut un peu plus difficile, la majorité des compagnies qui proposent des SOAT, et il y en a beaucoup qui l'affichent dans la rue, ne souhaitaient pas, où ne pouvaient pas ?, assurer un véhicule étranger. J'ai finalement pu en acheter un auprès de :
Rimac Seguros, Por Begonias, Paseo de la republica N°3082, San Isidro, Lima
Toujours pour 1 an, pour tout le Pérou, non fractionnable au mois, mais beaucoup plus cher, 800 soles (220 euros)
D'après les recherches que j'avais pu faire avant le départ, il semblait possible en Argentine d'acquérir un SOAT qui couvre Pérou, Chili, Argentine, mais il faut être sur place et je n'ai pas pu le vérifier...
Voilà mon retour d'expérience SOAT pour l'instant... 😉

Nous sommes tellement habitué à galérer pour tout ce qui est paperasse en Belgique, il faut faire 30 démarches avant d'avoir une assurance ici (carte grise, attestation de propriété, la plaque, etc, etc), que j'avais peur que ce soit pareil, heureusement il n'en est rien, ça a même l'air assez simple, je sais qu'il faut juste passer chez un notaire pour le changement de propriétaire quand on achète un véhicule d'occasion au Pérou.
Au plus j'ai des infos sur le voyage et comment ça ce passe, au plus je suis impatient de partir, encore 4 mois d'attente🙁.... Allez c'est vite passé!!!!
Hola ! Je rentre de 8 mois en Amérique du Sud (de Buenos Aires à Rio en passant par la Patagonie et le Pérou) et je peux te répondre sur la partie voyage (mais pas sur la partie moto !).

On a croisé beaucoup d'auberges Che Lagarto mais on n'a jamais testé ! Par contre, si c'était à refaire, je m'inscrirais avant de partir au réseau HI (Hostelling International). Il y a vraiment bcp d'auberges qui appartiennent à ce réseau et ça permet d'obtenir des réducs intéressantes ! (de 2 à 4€/nuit je crois).
- Quels sont les pays où le coushsurfing fonctionne et est-il rependu en Amérique du sud?
ça marche très bien en général en Argentine, Uruguay, Chili et Brésil. Par contre, c'est quasi-impossible en Bolivie et pas facile au Pérou... De même, le stop fonctionne très bien en Argentine (surtout en dessous de la ligne Bs As-Cordoba-Mendoza) et au Chili (du nord au sud). Un autre moyen de faire faire de belles rencontres !

Je pense que le camping sauvage est possible en Argentine et au Chili mais il faut bien choisir son endroit et faire très attention pour des raisons de sécurité (et perso je ne tenterai même pas plus au nord, Pérou, Bolivie, Paraguay ou Brésil). Des locaux nous ont dit plusieurs fois que les vols étaient fréquents dans les tentes en dehors des campings. Et il y a pas mal de campings qui sont bon marché (5€ la nuit en général) !
On a un blog où l'on a marqué tous les prix de transport et d'hébergement, l'adresse est dans ma signature. ça te donnera peut être des idées d'itinéraire !

Je suis déjà inscrit à HI (quand j'ai été au canada) et je pense que je vais aussi m'inscrire chez Che Lagarto, comme ça j'aurai plus de choix concernant les auberges.
Pour le Pérou, je pense ne pas avoir trop de difficultés, étant donné que mon beau-père est péruvien (ma mère c'est remarier là-bas), je peux déjà être héberger dans sa famille à Lima, et de là, peu-être, trouver d'autre plants d'hébergement dans d'autres régions du Pérou, dans la famille ou leurs amis.
Par contre comme tu me dis que le coushsurfing marche bien en Argentine, Chili et Uruguay ( je ne pense pas passé par le Brésil), je testerai ça, je trouve que c'est une bonne manière de rencontrer des gens du coin et de découvrir des endroits "typique".
Pour le camping sauvage, j'en ai fais pas mal en France comme le stop (j'en fais depuis l'âge de 9 ans), et bien sure il faut toujours être prudent, mais à 5 euro la nuit je ne vais pas chicaner.... et de plus je ne suis pas encore décider a embarquer une tente avec moi... le poids et l’encombrement... je ne suis pas certain que ça en vaille la peine, je sais qu'en voyage au plus le sac est léger au mieux c'est!!( petite anecdote: le tout 1er voyage que j'ai fais en sac à dos, avec mon frangin, nous avions tout emballé dans des bocaux en verre: sucre, café, etc, etc....pfff ont n'a pas tenu 2 jours avec tous ça, ont a tout viré🤪, bon c'est vrai ont étaient jeunes à l’époque, peu-être 19 ans))

I’m starting to think about a trip that’s really close to my heart: Algeria by motorcycle, specifically the southern part of the country. It’d be for January 2025, and I’ve got two main questions:
Is it possible for an individual on a motorcycle to travel freely, outside of any organized tour, or does the regulation require some kind of supervision in the Algerian Sahara region?
Is the Hoggar massif accessible by road or by (rideable) tracks?
Beyond the official recommendations, I’m really looking for your firsthand experiences.

I just realized I’ve been registered on VoyageForum since... March 28, 2012 😊. Yet, I’ve barely participated until now.
August 1, 2026, will mark a somewhat special milestone: 5 years on the road.
We left Switzerland on August 1, 2021 with a simple idea: let chance decide our direction. We placed a bottle of wine on a world map, spun it... and it chose our first destination.
A year later, when we arrived in Morocco, we faced a new choice: continue toward Africa or head to Asia. This time, a tarot card game made the decision. Since then, we’ve tried to keep this journey as open to the unexpected as possible.
Today, that adds up to about 120,000 km, 46 countries, and over 1,800 days on the road—mostly by motorcycle, but also by sailboat, train, bus, hitchhiking, or on foot when adventure calls.
Our guiding thread isn’t just the motorcycle, but service exchanges. Instead of simply passing through countries, we try to stop regularly to lend a hand to the people we meet. So far, that’s about 600 days of volunteering.
Over the years, we’ve:
renovated a house in Croatia
made earth bricks in the Moroccan desert
helped sail a boat through the Greek islands
looked after houses, dogs, horses, a camel... and lots of other animals
worked at a street art festival in Morocco
created videos for local associations and projects
worked the grape harvest on the Tibetan plateau
been accredited as "media" for the World Nomad Games in Central Asia
Some of the moments that have stuck with us the most include six months in China, a night spent on the Great Wall, the Pamir Highway, the Silk Road, three months in Taiwan, and the incredible encounters in the mountains of Central Asia.
We travel on Falkor, our lucky dragon—a 2014 BMW F800GS that’s been with us since the start and is starting to have some great stories of its own.
While we share our adventure on Instagram, Polarsteps, and YouTube, that’s not why we’re here. The forum’s rules about promotion are clear, and I totally get them. If I’m finally taking the time to write, it’s mostly because after five years on the road, I thought our experience might be useful to other travelers.

I’m planning a motorcycle road trip to Armenia and Georgia in September 2026 or May 2027. I’m looking for one or more riders (male or female) who’d like to explore these countries with me.
Along the way, we’ll visit Cappadocia, the capitals Yerevan, Tbilisi, Sofia, Skopje, and other cities—we can finalize the route and roadbook later.
This trip requires experience with long motorcycle journeys, as we’ll cover around 7,000 km over 5 or 6 weeks (or more, depending on sightseeing and time spent).
I don’t expect dozens of applicants, since motorcycle riders are few and far between on this forum, but I’m putting this out there anyway.

I’m not particularly drawn to museums, ruins, or monuments.
I want to experience local life—small villages, seaside spots, beaches, and the interior if the landscapes are extraordinary.
Ideally, coming from Athens, I’d take a bus or train to get as close as possible to a starting point, then rent a scooter (125cc) to explore by taking secondary roads or even coastal paths. I’d stay in 2-3 places for a few days each to discover their surroundings.

What do you think would be the ideal itinerary?
From Athens, the best option would be to take either a flight or a bus to Kalamata. Rent a scooter and head either west or east. Is there a tertiary road (very lightly trafficked) or a path where I can ride slowly, take it easy, and enjoy the scenery without being bothered by traffic? I’d like to go all the way to Monemvasia, still hugging the coast. I need to find a way to avoid returning to Kalamata to drop off the scooter and catch a flight—maybe a small town where the train stops so I can head back to Athens.

How do you get visas for the countries I’ll be crossing: Uruguay, Argentina, Bolivia, Peru, and Chile? Are they e-Visas, obtained at the border, or through embassies?
Where can I get vehicle insurance?
Lastly, if any bikers want to join us (my partner and me), we’re open to that possibility too.

I’ve got 15 days off in June and I’m pretty undecided about where to go for a motorcycle road trip. Two strong desires are pulling me in different directions: Corsica or Norway.
Corsica has been a dream of mine for a long time: legendary roads, stunning landscapes, a unique vibe, and the perfect mix of sea and mountains. At the same time, I’m wondering if 2 weeks might be *too much* for Corsica—risking feeling like I’ve seen it all too quickly, especially on a bike.
Since I also have an extra week free in May, I could use that specifically for Corsica. Maybe splitting it into two trips would make more sense? If so, which routes or regions would be the most interesting to plan for a 7-day trip?
On the other hand, Norway is *super* appealing. The landscapes look incredible, totally different from anything I’ve experienced, and it’d be a real “wow” trip. I know 15 days is still short for such a vast country. Getting all the way to the North Cape seems pretty much impossible in that time, but I’m curious about what realistic routes could be planned.
So I’m wondering:
Is it better to save Norway for next year, take 3 weeks off, and do it *properly*?
Or are 15 days enough for a first amazing taste of the country?
I’d love to hear about your experiences—whether it’s Corsica (ideal duration, routes) or Norway (what’s realistic in 2 weeks on a bike).

Hello! We’re planning a motorcycle trip that will include a visit to Auschwitz-Birkenau in June 2026.
We’re unsure (still debating) whether we should stay at a hotel on-site and get to the memorial with an Uber (leaving our bikes at the hotel) and book a guided tour, or base ourselves in Kraków and take a tour that includes transport.
One thing’s for sure—we’d prefer a guide in French since we don’t speak English 😅.
Could you share your experiences or advice?

Unfortunately, I’m worried that parts of the N630 may have disappeared or merged with the A66 motorway, forcing us to ride long stretches of highway, which we’d rather avoid.

We’ve rented two Royal Enfield 450s.
This is our first motorcycle trip in Morocco. I got my license two years ago with the dream of taking this kind of trip, and here we are! ✌️😍
In France, we usually ride between 300 to 400 km per day on roadsters. We’re not used to off-road tracks, so we’re looking for easy ones 😅—especially for me 😅.
For Morocco, I’ve planned stages of 200 to 300 km per day.
Here’s the idea:
Day 1 (departure at noon): Marrakech - Tizi n Test - Tafingoult (165 km - 4h15)
Day 2: Tafingoult - Amzarkou - Telouet (200 km - 4h34)
Day 3: Telouet - Ait Benhaddou - Ouarzazate - Boumalne (200 km - 3h30) (+ Vallée des Roses maybe)
Day 4: Boumalne - Dades Gorges - Agoudal - Todra Gorges - Tinghir - Goulmima (291 km - 6h)
Day 5: Goulmima - Midelt - Cirque Jaffar - Agoudim (280 km - 4h45)
Day 6: Agoudim - Imilchil - Aghbala - El Ksiba (280 km - 4h45)
Day 7: El Ksiba - La Cathédrale - Zaouiat Ahansal (212 km - 4h20)
Day 8: Ahansal - Ouzoud Waterfalls via R 302 (188 km - 4h22)
