Nouvelle sur le forum sur lequel je me suis pas mal renseignée pour faire mon itinéraire je souhaite avoir des avis de personnes expérimentées car comme beaucoup j'ai du mal à évaluer les temps de visites ce qu'il est possible de faire dans une journée ou non. Nous partons à 2 avec mon mari du 9 au 27 mai.Donc voilà l'itinéraire auquel je suis arrivée:
Jour 1 : Paris : 7h50 Phoenix : 19h06 durée voyage : Nuit Phoenix
Jour 2: Phoenix/ Jerome /Sedona / Grand Canyon ; Nuit à Grand Canyon
Jour 3 : Grand Canyon /Tuba City
les différents points de vue le long de la rive sud du grand canyon ;ballade le long du Rim
Nuit à Tuba City ou est-ce que j’ai le temps de pousser jusqu’à Page ?
Jour 4 TubaCity/Page – Lake Powell
AM : Après la route faire Antelope Canyon
PM : Croisière sur Lake Powell à Rain bowbridge
Nuit à Page
Jour 5 : Page/ Monument Valley/Moab ou Monticello
AM :Monument Valley
PM : Parc Canyonlands-The Needles
Nuit : j’hésite entre Moab et Monticello compte tenu des distances.
Est-ce que cette journée n’est pas trop chargée ?

Mariposa Grove (Forêt de Sequoia en espérant pas de neige!) . Apparemment un trajet en tramway existe (à approfondir) ; Wawona Road ( 50 miles ) ; Yosemite valley. Avec plein d’arrêts et de ballades sur la route.Randonnée de Vernal Falls

Jour 15 : Mariposa/Monterey
Aquarium de Monterey, Carmel
Nuit à Monterey
Jour 16: Monterey / San Francisco

J'ai l'impression que j'ai parfois des journées chargées (vers Moab) et d'autres peut-être au contraire pas assez. Las Vegas j'ai mis une journée mais nous ne sommes pas fan des bling-bling et peut-être le jour 9 nous pourrions arriver en début d'après midi (si le matin suffit pour faire Zion), y dormir et repartir le jour 10? Est-ce que ce serait trop court? Nous souhaitons en voir le maximum mais avec un rythme qui permette de faire des randonnées par-ci par-là et pas de la voiture du matin au soir.
J'ai déjà la nuit au Grand Canyon sur le site (très cher!) mais est-ce que je dois tout réserver en mai? C'est sûr que si on ne réserve pas on garde plus de flexibilité mais aussi on perd du temps à chercher. Et puis on peut plus difficilement comparer les prix qu'en le faisant avec du temps à la maison.
Avez-vous des conseils sinon pour les hotels? des noms pour des hotels corrects, propres mais vers 60/70€ la chambre max.

1. Vous passez rapidement à Sedona, c'est dommage. Dommage aussi d'arriver à Phoenix et de ne pas voir les saguaros (cactus) en faisant l'Apache Trail. Jerome me parait moins incontournable.
2. Nuit à Tuba City inutile
3. La croisière puis randonnée vers le Rainbow Bridge prend pratiquement la journée; Bien se renseigner sur les horaires.
4. Il manque une nuit à Monument Valley
5. The Needles est un trop gros détour et vous ne pourrez pas faire la rando qui vaut la peine: Chesler Park, une quinzaine de km. Pour le reste, vous verrez bien mieux ailleurs sur le même thème.
6. Il faut 3 nuit à Moab pour avoir un jour entier dans chaque parc national: Arches, et Island In The Sky (Canyonlands) allié avec le State Park de Dead Horse Point.
7. La Tioga risque d'être fermée, il faut donc prendre les devants et contourner par le Sud (pour visiter Sequoia NP)
Conclusion: il faut enlever la partie Moab/ Capitol Reef la plus excentrée du circuit pour se donner de l'air pour le reste.

Merci pour votre réponse rapide. Je vais tenir compte de vos remarques.
J'avais lu que l'Apache trail n'était pas très carrossable (des portions en piste) et nous aurons une voiture basique. Est-ce un problème? C'est pour ça que je ne l'avais pas retenu.
N'est ce pas dommage de faire les parcs et de ne pas faire Arches (c'est celui que j'aurais aimé faire vers Moab, retirer Canyonlands et Capitol Reef me pose moins de problème)?
Pour Antelope est-ce que ça se fait au cours de la croisière ou est-ce 2 chose différentes? Je n'arrive pas à trouver le renseignement.
Si Tioga ouvertes (le 21 mai) est-ce que je change mon programme au dernier moment ou est ce qu'en passant par le sud c'est tout aussi beau?
Pour l'Apache Trail, c'est une piste, mais aucun souci. Ou alors se contenter de Lost Dutchman State Park et filer vers Sedona si ça te pose tant de problèmes que ça.
Pour Arches etc ... le problème c'est que de ne pas faire Canyonlands et Capitol Reef ne te fera pas faire moins de km.
Deuxième option: garder Moab (3 nuits!) et supprimer ce qu'il y a entre Vegas et SF en prenant un vol interne (sur Southwest il y a des vols à environ 100$ bagages compris)
Comme vs le fait remarquer Itat, un itinéraire incluant Moab comportera plus de km que celui qu’il vs a proposé… et il est dommage de pousser jusque Moab si ce n’est que pour y rester que 2 nuits (il y a tellement à voir ds ce coin que certains y font plusieurs séjours de plusieurs jours) il faut au moins y consacrer 2 jours complets (donc 3 nuits)

Vs pouvez réserver vos hôtels pour les 2 options, et ajuster sur place en fonction de l’ouverture ou non de la Tioga Pass Rd lors de votre passage (les hôtels s’annulent jusqu’à 24 h avant le jour d’arrivée).
Question beauté, tt dépend de vos goûts :
- l’arrivée par le sud vs permettra de visiter les sequoias du Sequoia NP … mais il y a aussi des sequoias au Yosemite (ds Mariposa Grove qui sera encore visitable en mai puisque les travaux prévus ne commenceront qu’en juin)
- l’arrivée par le nord permettra de visiter la ville-fantôme de Bodie et de parcourir la splendide Tioga Pass Rd.
Perso, je choisirais sans hésiter l’arrivée par le nord (y a plus qu’à prier que la Tioga Pass rd soit ouverte😉)
Si vs tenez à l’étape de Page, vs supprimez Apache Trail et Sedona, et faites :
J1: arrivée Phoenix - Nuit Phoenix
J2: Phoenix – Grand Canyon
J3: Grand Canyon - points de vue Desert Drive – Page/Lac Powell

Mais vs n’aurez pas le temps de faire la croisière > Rainbow Bridge puisqu’il faut pratiquement une journée entière… mais, en même temps, cette longue croisière ne remporte pas non plus ts les suffrages (il est souvent rapporté un certain ennui du fait de la longueur justement😕)

Antelope Canyon est un canyon qui se visite côté mer, via une croisière + courte que celle qui va > Rainbow Bridge; et côté terre , via la partie slot canyon non inondée (si il n’y a pas de flash flood) composée de 2 parties distinctes : les Lower et Upper (voir http://ouestusa.fr/pagearea.htm)

Je crois que je vais me baser sur votre itinéraire car avec tout ce que j'ai lu sur Moab ça me tente vraiment. Je vais zapper la croisière sur le lac Powell car je n'avais pas compris que c'était toute une journée et effectivement je trouve ça trop long et préfère voir d'autres choses.
Bon j'ai du pain sur la planche. Faire et refaire c'est toujours travailler!!!
Bonsoir, nous avons fait le même itinéraire en 2003.
Vous arrivez à Phœnix avec je suppose une escale sur le soĺ américain avant. J'espère que cette escale sera assez longue pour votre correspondance. Nous avions raté notre vol Delta Atlanta/Phœnix suite à un retard du vol de Paris et une attente interminable à la douane.
A votre arrivée à Phœnix, vous serez certainement épuisés et je vous conseille de dormir à un hotel de l'aéroport et de prendre votre voiture de location le lendemain de bonne heure afin de partir tôt. Nous avions reservé un hotel a Scottsdale et nous n'avons rien vu de cette banlieue chic et chère: perte de temps, d'énergie et d'argent.
Concernant Moab, nous sommes restés trois nuits et cela nous a permis de décompresser totalement. Nous avons même poussé jusqu'au Colorado, Mesa Verde et Durango: verdure fraîcheur et ambiance Western.
Las Vegas, on aime ou pas mais je pense que deux nuits sont indispensables.
Sur le lac Powell, une location de bateau vous prendra une journée, attention à l'embase et l'hélice qui ne sont jamais assurées.
Pas sur que vous puissiez tout voir sur un tel trajet. Ne pas aller à Moab? Garder Yosemite et San Francisco pour un autre voyage?
Nul doute que les contributeurs assidus et passionnés de ce forum sauront vous conseiller.

En même temps si tu veux faire une croisière sur le Lac Powell, nous avions fait une croisière ( Antelop Canyon a Wahweap Marina) d'1H30 ( Réservée sur place sans probleme en Aout 2 H avant ) - Tu auras déjà un bon aperçu et au final 1H30 ça suffit largement.
Il y 'en a de 2H30 ou plus.

Effectivement nous avons une correspondance à Dallas. Ayant des amis qui ont eu la même mésaventure que toi j'ai 4h30 de correspondance. J'espère que ça ira?
En lisant tous vos commentaires je vois bien qu'il faut que je retire des étapes, mais que c'est dur de choisir! Je préférerais en rajouter!!
Je pense que je vais suivre en gros l'itinéraire de Bastinj. Devant votre unanimité à rester 3 jours à Moab je vais essayer le faire. Pour Paje je vais suivre le conseil de sbrcoach et prendre la croisière d'1h30 en faisant Antelope. Nous voulons absolument faire San Francisco, car quand reviendrons-nous en Californie? Et du coup c'est un peu dommage de ne pas faire Yosemite. Alors je vais refaire mon itinéraire. Et finalement si je dois vraiment retirer quelque chose le plus logique serait effectivement Moab mais ce serait la mort dans l'âme!
Mais vous vous avez poussé jusqu'au Colorado, combien de temps ça a pris? car ça je ne pense pas le faire. Et etes-vous repartis de San Francisco?

Antelope Canyon se présente sous un aspect complètement différent selon qu'on le visite "côté mer" ou "côté terre", et ces 2 côtés sont à voir... et s'apprécient le plus à des moments différents de la journée:
- idéalement en fin de journée pour le "côté mer"
- idéalement en début de matinée pour le "côté terre" en ce qui concerne la partie "Lower"
- idéalement vers 11h-midi en été (au moment où le soleil est au zénith), pour le "côté terre" en ce qui concerne la partie "Upper"
Donc prévoir la croisière en fin d'aprèm du jour où est prévu le trajet Gd Canyon-Page,
et prévoir la visite des parties Lower ou Upper en matinée du jour où est prévu le trajet Page-Monument Valley
Après notre nuit à Page, nous avons fait monument valley et nuit à Bluff. De là, Four Corners ( c'est amusant pour la photo) Mesa Verde, Durango et arrivée à Moab le soir. C'est faisable mais cette année nous dormirons a Durango sachant que nous shunterons le lac Powell. Et repartirons de San Francisco sur Las Vegas en vol intérieur après avoir laissé notre voiture a San Francisco.
Nous avons éviter des escales aux États Unis et les horaires de vols ( notamment d'arrivée: 14h30) nous semblaient plus sympas. Je précise que nous habitons dans le sud de la France donc minimum une escale pour nous.

Le printemps est deja arrive en California.
Il n'y a pas de neige a Yosemite en dessous de 2.400 metres.
Il y a de bonnes probabilites que la Tioga Pass soit ouverte avant la fin Mai.

Voilà une très très bonne nouvelle et vraiment merci de me la communiquer. A votre avis pas de risque qu'un hiver un peu tardif pointe le bout de son nez?? Car je serai déçue de devoir passer par le sud même s'il y a des choses à voir. Avec tout ce que j'ai lu je pense que Tioga pass Road doit être magnifique et après toutes les merveilles que je pense voir dans les canyons je souhaite continuer à être émerveillée avec Yosemite!
Pour San Francisco, j'ai choisi un hotel sur Lombard street (voiture oblige car parking gratuit, et prix correct) en demandant chambre à l'arrière à moins que vous ayez un autre conseil? Par contre fêtant mes 60 ans le jour de mon arrivée à SF avez-vous une adresse de bon resto (restant dans des limites raisonnables) à me conseiller?

Hello everyone! Really damaged due to flooding caused by runoff after forest fires (a total mess!), does anyone in this friendly forum have any updates on the Apache Trail between Apache Junction and Roosevelt Dam? Is there still a section of the road that’s tough to navigate?
We're leaving at the end of June and will be driving the route between Buffalo and Cody. We’ve already booked our accommodations and a rodeo in Cody, but during the day, we’ll be driving between the two and I’m unsure about the itinerary.
Which route do you think is the most pleasant, interesting, or scenic between:
- The northern route via Highway 14 with Sheridan, Lowell, etc.
- The southern route with Highways 16/20/14, passing by Loaf Mountain Overlook, Powder River Pass, Ten Sleep Canyon...
We’ll be in a car, so we should be able to drive on any road.

I’m almost done planning our September road trip. After our 3-night visit to Sequoia, we’ll have a stopover night in Coalinga (to break up the drive). We’ll be staying two nights in Monterey and would like to stop along the way to visit one side of Pinnacles National Park. We’re torn between the West entrance and the East entrance, and we’d like to do a short hike of no more than 2 hours since we don’t want to arrive too late in Monterey.
This park is split into two distinct zones with no connection between them, and the mileage from Coalinga to Monterey is pretty much the same for both. Which area do you recommend visiting—east or west? And which route is the most scenic?
I’ve spotted two short hikes:
- East: Moses Spring to Rim Trail Loop
- West: Balconies Cliffs Cave Loop
Has anyone been there, or do you have another hike to suggest?

After our first trip as a young couple to the West in 2007 (yes, that doesn’t make us any younger!), we’re planning to go back in 2028, but this time as a family of four! (We have two boys who’ll be 5½ and 13 years old in the summer of 2028.)
Our plan is to combine a few big cities (SF and LA, maybe San Diego) with national parks and state parks, mostly!
Ideally, we’d like to leave at the end of June and head back to France around July 19–20, so we can enjoy the first week of the Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
Since we already did the "loop" in 2007, there are must-see places we absolutely want to revisit—and especially share with our kids: Bryce Canyon, Yosemite, and above all, the Grand Canyon, which is still the most incredible thing I’ve ever seen on Earth!
On the other hand, some places didn’t leave a big impression on us for various reasons, so we’re not making them a priority: Antelope Canyon, Monument Valley, for example.

Just a quick question about King Canyon and Sequoia National Park.
Before our night in Miramonte, we plan to visit King Canyon. The next stop will be two nights in Three Rivers to explore Sequoia National Park. I wanted to go all the way to Roaring River Falls on the King Canyon Scenic Byway and then turn back to head to Miramonte. Since we’re coming from Oakhurst, Google Maps says it’s 300 km and 5 hours of driving. Since we also want to hike to see the sequoias (Big Stump Area and Grand Grove) before tackling the King Canyon Scenic Byway, the timing’s going to be tight. How far do you recommend going before turning back to miss as few points of interest as possible on the King Canyon Scenic Byway? Thanks for your advice, and have a great evening!

I had planned a trip to Colorado in 2021 but canceled due to COVID, so with time passing and my eldest’s high school graduation approaching fast, I figured it was now or never!

We’ll be alternating between house swaps, motels, and campgrounds. I’ve booked all the accommodations (except the campground at Bryce since sunset bookings open only 14 days in advance) and the first activities, as well as the most touristy ones.
I’m currently putting together my day-by-day roadbook and having some trouble planning certain days, like in LA or Las Vegas. Choosing hikes isn’t easy either—it’s tough to decide!

I’d like to travel along I-15N from San Diego to Las Vegas with my mom, who’s 67. We’ve explored Northern California and the California Coast over the past two years and now want to continue through the desert.
There are several attractions along the way:
- Mormon Rocks
- Desert Discovery Center and visit the Old Woman meteorite
- Joshua Tree National Park
- Mojave Desert
- Mojave National Preserve
- Anza-Borrego Desert State Park
- Silverwood Lake
My mom has back issues that prevent her from hiking or walking on trails with elevation changes. Is it possible to visit these places by car, or are the routes flat enough?
I’d love for her to experience the desert with an itinerary adapted to her condition. I’m also open to other points of interest that aren’t mentioned. We have 3-4 days for the trip, so we’re not in a rush—just want to explore.
I’d love to take a road trip and visit Nova Scotia. I’d appreciate some info on the best cities to see and the most interesting spots. The trip should last about 10 to 15 days, staying in hotels or motels. Thanks in advance!

Is it pretty easy to navigate Detroit Airport to catch the connecting flight to Grand Rapids (domestic flight)? There are several of them who speak English well.

We’d like to walk to Eagle Falls and then Eagle Lake. I’ve spotted two parking lots that seem close to each other and give access to the trailhead. Where and how do we pay for entry to Emerald Bay State Park and Inspiration Point?
**Viewpoints on the East Side:**
Are most of the viewpoints (Balancing Rock, Granite Cave, Bonsai Rock, etc.) right by the road, or do you have to hike to reach them?
**Donner Memorial State Park:**
Is it worth making a detour to Truckee to visit this park and the Truckee historic downtown?

I'm shocked by the price of the Upper Antelope Canyon tour—$175 for less than an hour… You might say, "if you can’t afford it…" But the real question is whether it’s really worth it, because $350 for two makes me feel like I’m getting ripped off. I’ve read there are trails to access the trailheads for Cinder Cone (11 km) and Warner Valley. Are these easy trails for an SUV?

I’m a total USA addict. I’ve already done several road trips, including the East Coast and West Coast.
I’m here today because I’m planning to go back for another road trip on the West Coast. Possibly with one of my sisters and a couple of friends. It’s still just a plan for now, but I’m working on an itinerary in the meantime. Ideally, I’d leave in 2026, but I don’t have the exact dates yet—maybe April-May or September-October.
My last trip to the West Coast was in September 2014. We went for 2 weeks, but this time it’d be 3 weeks. What made me want to go back was simply a colleague who just left today. As I’m writing this, he’s on the plane. I’m so happy for him, but now all I can think about is going back.
Since I recently went to NY, I noticed that prices have really gone up. I assume the same is true for the West Coast? For 2 people over 3 weeks, what budget should I expect? We’re the type to watch our spending and find great tips.
I think we’ll arrive in San Francisco like the first time and leave from either Los Angeles or Las Vegas.

Travelers to the United States | Photo Now Mandatory Upon Entry and Exit | La Presse
I assume many of you already know, but the America the Beautiful annual pass, which was $80, will increase to $250 starting January 1, 2026.
So if you're planning to travel before the end of December 2026, it's in your best interest to buy your pass in December 2025, since it will still cost $80 and be valid until the end of December 2026 if you purchase it in December 2025.
This price increase only applies to non-U.S. residents.
Additionally, for those who planned to visit just one park, a $100 surcharge per person will apply to access a list of 11 national parks...
For example, if there are 4 of you in a car, you’ll have to pay $35 + $400,
which comes to $435 to visit one of the 11 parks on the list (I don’t have all of them... Bryce, Zion, Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Grand Teton, etc.).
Total madness.
The goal is to push people who only visit one park into buying the annual pass.
Last point: free entry days are over for non-residents!

We just finished 9 days in the American West and wanted to share our experience because we had an amazing time.
I know some of you might ask, why use an agency? Honestly, we didn’t really feel like doing all the driving and planning, especially since we didn’t know the area at all. And since our English isn’t great, having French-speaking guides was a big comfort.
We found Emmanuelle and Isabelle, and wow, they were fantastic. It was just the two of us with them, so it was a truly VIP, ultra-personalized experience. They treated us like royalty from start to finish. These two live in Las Vegas and know the region like the back of their hand. The service was really personalized. They adapted to our pace and preferences, and we could stop whenever we wanted to take photos. It’s the luxury of being in a small private group—you’re not just a number on a big bus.
In short, we really felt like we were traveling with friends rather than professional guides. Everything’s included in the price (hotel pickup, meals, park entries, etc.), so the value for money is fair.
We loved it so much that we’re already planning to come back next year to explore other areas with them. I think we’ve caught the American West bug—it’s all we can think about, and we can’t wait to return.
