Hi there,

I’m reaching out about my summer trip plans (from 07/18 to 08/02). I’ve already bought my flight tickets to Cairo. Here’s my planned itinerary: Cairo – 2 nights White Desert – 2 nights Hurghada – 2 nights Luxor – 2 nights Aswan – 1 night Marsa Alam – 4 nights Cairo – 1 night -> So, I was planning to rent a car after the desert to go to Hurghada, then Luxor, then Marsa Alam (but the drive from Marsa Alam back to Cairo seems really long, so I was thinking of skipping it and going from Luxor back to Hurghada instead). Could you help me make sense of this, please?

Thanks so much!

Hello everyone, Have any of you been to Egypt around your travel dates? Just so you know, it’s *extremely* hot there right now. Also, there’s a lot of back-and-forth between cities, so some trips might get canceled, which means you won’t have to unpack and repack your suitcases too often. I’d suggest (just my opinion) considering adding some days on the coast—either in Hurghada or Marsa Alam. Hurghada is already closer to Cairo. Also, keep in mind that the roads from Aswan to the coast have been closed for over a year, so you’ll have to go back via Luxor (by road). Renting a car? Are you driving it yourselves or with a chauffeur? I’ll get back to you later—check your itinerary in the meantime. Have a great day! Thoutmosis

Hi there,

Yes, I know about the heat. Thanks for your feedback—we’re now more confident about this itinerary: Cairo – 3 nights Faiyum – 1 night Luxor – 2 nights Marsa Alam – 3 nights Hurghada – 5 nights Cairo – 1 night Private driver and domestic flights between Hurghada and Cairo / Cairo and Luxor.

Does this seem more logical?

Thanks!

Hello everyone, Yes, still some inconsistencies? From Fayoum to Luxor, since you're spending a night there, how do you plan to get to Luxor? By bus?? You're not going to head back to Cairo just to take a flight, that’s a waste of time and distance—how many hours of driving would that add up to?

Personally, on the coast, I’d do everything in one place—fewer trips and less hassle with luggage. But if there’s no other way, why not!

I’d do Cairo first, then head to Fayoum by private driver or bus, spend the night, then take the bus to Luxor. Then Luxor-Hurghada or Marsa Alam (Hurghada is preferable since the bus agency is there). Finally, Hurghada back to Cairo by bus. Maybe by plane instead?

The bus is much cheaper, but you’ll need to book your tickets at least 24 to 48 hours in advance. If you’re not used to it, check with your driver in Cairo—they might help you buy the next leg of your tickets while driving you to Fayoum. Thoutmosis
