Je suis actuellement au Laos et je me demande si je dois, ou non, prendre un traitement antipalu. On nous a dit à plusieurs reprises que la Malarone provoquait des effets secondaires très désagréables, et qu'il n'était pas utile de prendre un traitement au Laos...
En même temps, je me suis déjà fait piquer 3 ou 4 fois depuis que je suis dans le pays et le risque de paludisme m'inquiète vraiment !
Est-ce que prendre de la Malarone à ce stade est encore utile ? Est-ce qu'on court d'énormes risques avec 3 ou 4 piqûres de moustiques ?
C'est vraiment ennuyant cette histoire de palu, presque de quoi gâcher la découverte de ce beau pays.

- France 2010 - 4600 cas de palus importé et 8 décès = 0.17% de décès
-U.K de 1987 à 2006 - 40 000 cas pour 191 décès = 0.47% de décès
La plupart des décès se produisent sur des sujets âgées (+de 65 ans) et mal informé des risque du palu, donc diagnostique plus tardif des médecins.
il est surtout important de réagir vite et d être traité rapidement si un état fiévreux ce déclare.

bonjour, tous les ans , mon épouse et moi partons dans un pays d'asie du sud est. cette année , ce sera le laos en janvier. Le traitement palu est vivement conseillé car le laos est en zone 3. Beaucoup de gens pensent que le danger est pour les autres. Pas de permis, pas d'assurance, pas de traitement youpi c'est les vacances!!! Malheureusement il arrive parfois que le rêve du voyage se transforme en drame. c'est tellement simple de mettre à jour ses vaccins et de prendre un traitement anti palu. Comme beaucoup, je ne supporte pas la malarone qui en plus est hors de prix. je prends de la doxycycline( antibiotique) 1 comprimé par jour sans les effets indésirables de la malarone 8 euros la boite de 30 et remboursée par la sécu , tout a fait compatible avec le traitement pour le laos. Maintenant je ne suis pas votre médecin et c'est peut etre incompatible si vous avez des problémes de santé . A voir
c'est sur le forum que j'ai découvert ça et aprés conseil auprés de mon medecin traitant, il m'a effectivement dit que ça faisait office de traitement anti palu; le mystére reside uniquement dans les bénéfices des labos pharmaceutiques. Il faut être avare de son mépris tellement il y a de nécessiteux.
Le risque de paludisme existe de Janvier à Décembre dans les régions à risque (risque faible: tout le pays / pas de paludisme: Vientiane).
Il est recommandé de se protéger contre les piqûres de moustiques.
Il est nécessaire d'avoir un médicament avec soi à prendre en cas de crise de paludisme: artéméther + luméfantrine (RIAMET®) ou atovaquone + proguanil (MALARONE®)
Et de toute façon si tu y es déjà, le traitement préventif (une pilule par jour pendant x semaines avant l'arrivée dans la zone à risque) ne sert plus à rien. Et pour info, le traitement préventif (prophylactique, comme ils disent :) n'est pas un vaccin: il n'empêche pas d'avoir le palu, juste de diminuer la virulence des symptôme...
Donc pas trop de crainte à avoir. Mettez des habits couvrants amples et du répulsif anti-moustique, c'est bien plus efficace....

Bonsoir, Comme 99.9 % des touristes vous coucherez dans un hotel ou guesthouse la plupart du temps climatisé vous ne risquez pas grand chose (les moustiques ont horreur de la clim !) ou moins d'être immergé dans une nature sauvage et inhospitalière pendant plusieurs semaines ou il faut un traitement préventif.
Le fait de sortir de la maison expose "l'inconscient routard " : aux accidents d'avion, de la circulation, aux morsures de serpent, aux bars mal fréquentés. ET.... ET... ET...Les hépatites alors vous y pensez!
Nous revenons d'un voyage Laos et Cambodge. Bien qu'étant logés dans d'excellents hôtels, nous avons été piqués car nous ne passons pas le voyage dans la chambre!! Mon mari s'est tartiné de répulsif, moi un peu moins si bien que les moustiques se sont vengés sur moi! nous nous sommes souvent promenés la nuit tombée, ceci explique cela. Pour en revenir au traitement anti palu, nous avons pris de la malarone et non le médicament ( j'ai oublié le nom) moins cher et remboursé par la sécu car ce dernier vous expose à des risques de photosensibilisation, et il faudrait pour éviter cet ennui bien se couvrir dès qu'on est au soleil.Bref le médecin me l'a déconseillé. En effet s'il faut toujours avoir manches longues, pantalons longs, chapeau, voire crème écran total etc.... c'est un esclavage.

We're about to go on an organized trip to South Africa, including Kruger Park. We were told that Malarone should preferably be taken in the evening at the same time during a meal. But it's hard to know what time we'll have dinner, especially since I've read that in South Africa, dinner is usually around 6 PM.
I'd love to hear from people who've been on organized trips to this destination and could share their experience. We were thinking of taking Malarone around 7:30 PM, assuming dinner would be closer to 7 PM than 6 PM. Also, if the meal ends up being earlier or later than when we take the pill, would a cookie or a piece of bread be enough to take with Malarone?
I’m planning to set off on a "round-the-world" trip/long journey at the start of next year, lasting between 4.5 and 6 months. For now, the itinerary looks like this: South Korea (2 weeks) -> Japan (1 month) -> New Zealand (1 month) -> Argentina (1 month) -> United States (1 month).
I’m on medication (paroxetine 20 mg/day) and was hoping to bring enough for the entire trip so I wouldn’t have to find a doctor on the spot, deal with a molecule that might be slightly different from what’s available in France, or wonder if that’s even a possibility. But after looking into the regulations for each country, it’s suddenly way less simple . Many seem to only allow the amount corresponding to the length of your "stay" in the country... Which is a problem if I arrive in Korea with 4.5 months’ worth of medication, for example.
