Nous partons en asie du sud-est (Thaï, Laos, Viet, Camb), sac à dos, pour 3 mois entre Janvier et Avril 2003, et notre gros problème est de savoir si oui ou non nous prenons du Lariam. D'après les medecins, c'est le seul antipaludéen efficace pour cette zone géographique.Seulement, de nombreux témoignages nous rapportent qu'il est trés violent et bourré de contre-indications.
Le palu ne sevit pas sur la totalite de chacun des pays. Dans un premier temps, renseigne toi si les endroits ou tu vas sont des zones impaludes. Par exemple en Thailande, les zones impaludes se retrouvent plutot dans le Nord du pays, si tu vas dans la jungle .(et encore, seulement certaines parties de la jungle sont impaludees)
Si tu restes dans les grandes villes, il n'ya pas de Palu.
Souvent, on conseil +volontier de mettre du repulsif anti-moustiques a la tombee de la nuit, plutot que de prendre du Lariam.
Sinon, le Lariam est la majorite du temps bien accepte par les gens . Mais y'a tout de meme regulierement des personnes qui le supportent mal.
Nous savons que dans les regions où nous allons le palu est classé en groupe 3 (le plus résistant aux medicaments), et que le traitement le plus efficace dans cette zone et le Lariam. Cependant nous partons pour trois mois et craignons les effets secondaires. Comment avez vous géré le problème sur une longue periode? Les effets sont-ils si déplaisant?
Pour le Lariam et tout ca, je connais. Mais tu appelles quoi "region", l'Asie du Sud-EST ? ou la village que tu vas visiter ?
Sinon, si tu me donnes un peu ton itineraire en Thailande (les autres pays, je me suis jamais renseigne), je peux te dire.
Je reexplique un petit peu, la grande majorite du territoire thailandais n'est pas une zone endemique du Palu. Tu n'as besoin d'un traitement preventif qu'au cas ou tu passes dans des regions ou le Palu est present.
La majorite des personnes, n'ont aucun effet secondaire avec le Lariam. Ce qui n'est pas le cas de tout le monde. C'est pour ca, qu'on demande de prendre le premier comprime en France, pour savoir si la personne est sensible.
Mais en prenant du Lariam, il y'a un autre probleme, c'est celui de la selection des souches resistantes, un peu comme les antibio. LA, c'est + un probleme d'environnement.
De nouveaux medicaments sortent actuellement, mais je crois qu'ils sont pas encore en vente en France.
Mais bon ..... la majorite des gens partent sans prendre de traitement. Personellement je n'en prend plus. Je n'ai jamais eu d'effets secondaires, mais c'est + pour une question economique et environnementale comme je l'explique plus haut. Je me protege plutot des moustiques, ce qui est le + souvent conseille aux voyageurs.
Les expatries qui vivent en Asie du S-E, ne prennent pas de Lariam.
Je ne pense pas que le LAriam soit une necessite, (en + c'est pas rembourse) sa frequence est bcp - importante qu'en Afrique et ils existent des traitements curatifs. Le Lariam n'est pas seulement preventif, mais il peut aussi etre utilise en traitement curatif. Donc, si t'attrapes le Palu, on peut t'en soigner.
Sinon, il existe aussi la doxycycline, qui a d'autre avantages par rapport au Lariam, mais a un gros defaut, car elle est photosensibilisante, donc deconseillee hors de la saison des pluies.
J'ai essaye de faire le tour de la question, si t'as d'autres questions, n'hesite pas.
Mais surtout, renseigne toi de facon PRECISE sur les lieux ou tu vas te rendre.
Aprés bKK nous allons nous diriger vers chiang-mai puis chiang rai et huay xai pour passer la frontiere du Laos. Mais tout ca en 3 semaines environ. Le treck nous plais bien mais on a pas encore chercher ou en faire, en tous cas on sortira le plus possible des sentiers battus. A se moment est-ce qu'un simple anti-moustique sera suffisant???
En trekk, toutes les zones ne sont meme pas infestees. Mais meme dans les zones infestees, on conseil souvent de pulveriser un anti-moustique surtout a la tombee de la nuit.
Ne pas oublier que le Lariam, n'est pas une protection a 100 %.
Si tu veux d'autres avis, je suis certains qu'il y'a pleins de sites sur le sujet sur le net. Ou alors va sur le forum du guide du routard. Pleins de gens ont deja pose la question.
Par contre, si vous avez des enfants ... il vaudrait mieux demander l'avis d'un medecin. les enfants sont + sensibles a la maladie.
Moi on m avait conseille la doxyciline pour l Asie du Sud-Est, jamais du lariam! (et c est un specialiste de l Institut Pasteur que j avais ete voir, pas un second couteau...). De toute facon, la, j y suis a nouveau (Cambodge en ce moment) et je ne prends plus rien. Meme pas d anti-moustique, et pour l instant ca va...

je suis allée en inde 4 mois et j'ai pris du lariam ( tout ce temps )...il y a beaucoup de légendes sur ce médicamentet pourtant je n'ai pas été victime d'hallucinations et d'angoisses nocturnes graves, j'ai bien fait quelques rêves étranges et parfois des cauchemars 😮mais n'est-ce pas plutôt l'environnement nouveau, un monde inconnu et mystérieux qui provoque ces nuits moins calmes que lorsqu'on est chez soi ?????
bref, un ami à moi souffre de la malaria, il l'a attrappé dans un pays ( quelque part en Afrique ) où il n'y avait pratiquement pas de risque...c'est plus simple peut-être de mettre les chances de votre côté plutôt que de prendre la chance de souffrir de crises chroniques.
😄 Merci pour ta réponse positive. On a pris le premier lariam dimanche 5 janvier et tout s'est bien passé. Mieux vos se proteger d'une maladie ou 2 francais part an en meurt, même si le lariam et n'est pas tres bon pour ton corps. Avec toute les merde qu'il nous balance on est habitué...
Pour ma part c'est un médicament dangereux, et je suis contre l'adminstration de ce médicament en préventif surtout pour 3 mois de voyage plus 1 mois ou il faudra continuer à la prendre (à votre retour en France). J'en ai fait l'experience pour le même voyage il y a 7 ans ... depuis j'estime que j'ai gardé des sequelles suite au traitement, il y a d'ailleurs beaucoup de sites qui traitent des effets secondaires du Lariam ...
Ajouté à la complexité du problème, la Food & Drug Administration (FDA) a récemment renforcé les avertissements contre les effets secondaires du Lariam sur le plan psychiatrique (anxiété, rêves, hallucinations, dépression et même attitude psychotique), tout en prévenant que le lien présumé entre ce médicament et le suicide n'était pas prouvé. Selon les spécialistes, un sur 10 000 ou 15 000 utilisateurs du Lariam connaissent de sévères effets secondaires.
Ah oui, je n'ai rien contre l'entreprise qui produit ce medoc !!!
Mais très sincerement il faut l'éviter ou alors le prendre sur une très courte période ...
On peut être réticent à la prise de Lariam à titre préventif. Par contre dans les zones à aux risques il reste incontournable à titre curatif en cas de paludisme foudroyant, surtout s'il n'y a pas de centre de soin à proximité. Il est donc bon d'en avoir un boîte dans sa pharmacie.
Attention, le Lariam n'est pas un traitement préventif du paludisme, mais un traitement curatif.
Il peut être dangereux de prendre du Lariam en traitement préventif, car cela n'empêche nullement d'être infecté et il deviendra alors très difficile de vous soigner en cas de crise.
Se renseigner absolument auprès de médecins spécialistes du palu ( et aucun autre ). Prendre plusieurs avis si nécessaire et en tout état de cause la meilleure des préventions reste les protections passives, vêtements + répulsifs et choisir de préférence une saison pendant laquelle les moustiques ne sont pas trop présents, notamment dans les zones comme le Nord Thailande et le Laos, ou aucun traitement n'est efficace.

We're about to go on an organized trip to South Africa, including Kruger Park. We were told that Malarone should preferably be taken in the evening at the same time during a meal. But it's hard to know what time we'll have dinner, especially since I've read that in South Africa, dinner is usually around 6 PM.
I'd love to hear from people who've been on organized trips to this destination and could share their experience. We were thinking of taking Malarone around 7:30 PM, assuming dinner would be closer to 7 PM than 6 PM. Also, if the meal ends up being earlier or later than when we take the pill, would a cookie or a piece of bread be enough to take with Malarone?
I’m planning to set off on a "round-the-world" trip/long journey at the start of next year, lasting between 4.5 and 6 months. For now, the itinerary looks like this: South Korea (2 weeks) -> Japan (1 month) -> New Zealand (1 month) -> Argentina (1 month) -> United States (1 month).
I’m on medication (paroxetine 20 mg/day) and was hoping to bring enough for the entire trip so I wouldn’t have to find a doctor on the spot, deal with a molecule that might be slightly different from what’s available in France, or wonder if that’s even a possibility. Basically, it seemed simpler on paper...
But after looking into the regulations for each country, it’s suddenly way less simple . Many seem to only allow the amount corresponding to the length of your "stay" in the country... Which is a problem if I arrive in Korea with 4.5 months’ worth of medication, for example.

Generally, I understand it’s possible to travel with approved medications (which should be my case), but often with a limit of 3 months’ worth of treatment.
Since I’m going for 12 months, that means for three-quarters of my trip, I’d have more than 3 months’ worth of medication.

The suspected origin is contamination in Namibia by jackals.
The contagion seems to be spreading.
Preventive vaccination (of the animals) is being considered.

Once symptoms appear—sometimes weeks or even months later—death is inevitable.
It’s the bite that transmits the disease.
There are so-called "furious" forms with aggression, but also forms without aggression.
