Rescue in the Himalayas – Almost a Christmas Tale

a rescue operation for two very strong mountaineers in the Himalayas.

Described that way, you’d think the two women (experienced?) must’ve weighed heavily on the rope used to pull them up. 🤪

OH! Kola, I dread the epistolary joust with you, knowing your formidable mastery of the French language—it’s why I like you so much. Though I won’t say it often, we’d shift registers, and in these times of hunting down the white male, inevitably guilty of all misdeeds and then some!!!!

Anyway, back to the heart of the matter: strong and experienced. I wouldn’t be naive—or stupid—enough to talk to you about context.

The adjective *experienced*, when we’re talking about mountaineering, conjures up someone who’s spent a long time in the mountains, who knows all the dangers because of that long experience. But just because you know the mountains well doesn’t mean you’re *very strong*. Many mountaineers have climbed countless peaks via easier routes—nothing extraordinary, really.

The adjective *strong*, used to describe these two British and American climbers, isn’t meant to portray mountaineers who know the mountains and are experienced. Instead, it depicts climbers who engage in an extreme form of climbing: ascending a new route on an unexplored, steep face at very high altitudes between 6,000 and 7,000 meters. This is a far cry from expeditions led by Sherpas, where the logistics are massive. The number of people—men or women—capable of such a feat is limited. So, the adjectives *strong* and *experienced* don’t describe the same qualities and can’t be considered synonyms in mountaineering.

Yikes, I’m putting on my armor and waiting for your reply. Have a good evening

OH! Lucbertrand, as long as you love me... with an epithet as a customary precaution, all is well.

Ouch, I’m putting on my armor and waiting for your reply.

Lower the armor—your passion is... disarming. A picture speaks louder than a thousand words.

(Sorry, Lucbertrand)

Well spotted, Kola! The test is passed—Moody’s won’t downgrade your excellent rating, unlike France, which just got downgraded. Sniff. Keep being sharp—life’s too full of "yes, yes" depending on whether you’re this or that, especially staying in the mainstream of your own thought process? (Nothing more annoy...).
