A Series: June 2025 Photo Contest Theme
FR

Translated into English.

Original post
KA
The theme for June is: A SERIES "A series is a set of coherent images that share several common points while still being different from one another."

In 3 photos, posted simultaneously in the same message, I’d like you to tell me a little story with a few words. You’re allowed 2 series.

They can be narrative or thematic. For example: 3 shots representing 3 professions, 3 places of worship, 3 market stalls, 3 trains... the ideas are endless—whether in the same place or in different countries... or 3 images of the same place, photographed from 3 different angles, under 3 different lights... or 3 images where the predominant color is the same... Narrative and theme can, of course, overlap.

Practical details:

Participation Each VF member can submit up to 2 series, until Saturday, June 21 at 11:59 PM Paris time. Each series of 3 photos must be presented in a single message, with its number indicated (series 1, series 2).

Voting: Each VF member can vote for the 3 series they consider the best, based on their own criteria and the theme.

Voting will take place from Saturday, June 21 at midnight until Saturday, June 28 at 11:59 PM Paris time.

The selected series will be ranked in order of preference: - 1st series: 3 points - 2nd: 2 points - 3rd: 1 point

The winner is the author of the series with the most points.

Results will be published on June 29 during the day. In case of a tie, the number of first-place votes will decide. The winner will have the honor of organizing July 2025’s contest.

Photos that have won (1st, 2nd, or 3rd place) in another VF contest are not eligible for this one.

This thread is exclusively for series submitted to the contest. All discussions, comments, and other chatter should take place in this thread.

...................................................................

Narrative: In Bali, I took a cooking class. We went to the market to shop with the teacher. We cleaned and prepped the ingredients to make, among other things, a lovely salad.

...........................................................................

Narrative and thematic: I really loved this place 30 km from Essaouira. A little souk "just as it is," as they say. The souk of Ida Ougourd.

...........................................................................

Thematic: Green in nature. The green of tea plantations in Munnar, a bamboo forest in Les Landes, and a park in Tokyo.

The coffee ceremony, a symbol of Ethiopian hospitality.

The ritual is always led by a woman. The coffee beans are first roasted in a small pan over a charcoal brazier. The hostess then lets us smell the delicious aroma of the roasted beans.

After meticulously grinding them, she brews the coffee three times in a clay carafe. At the same time, she burns incense, which spreads a sweet fragrance.

Finally, she carefully pours the drink into each cup after rinsing them with a precise gesture. This coffee is very strong, and its bitter taste can be softened with sugar or honey. Traditionally, you’re invited to accept all three cups offered.

Enjoy! !

Series 2: Hiking in Aubrac

Spring is coming to an end, and the highland pastures are green and in bloom. We’re hiking under the rays of a long-awaited sun, watched over by a few herds.

The fields were meticulously combed during the narcissus harvest, but a few flowers won’t end up in the perfumers’ workshop.

A buron is slowly transforming into a second home for two-legged creatures craving silence and preserved spaces.

Will an aligot be waiting for me at the end of the trail?

Hi!

Dolma 2: 3 points No hesitation—once I saw this series, I knew it’d be on my podium. "It’s the uncertainty that charms us; everything becomes marvelous in the mist." (O. Wilde)

The rest is trickier. I have to say I prefer photos that flow without text breaking up my view of the overall image.

So: Solène 1: 2 points Xrtcn 1: 1 point.

Have a great summer, everyone!

Hi everyone,

This is the toughest part: voting!

For their poetry, lightness, and coherence, I’ve chosen these 3 series:

UnaMilanese, series 1, 3 points Dolma, series 2, 2 points Solene40, series 2, 1 point

This doesn’t mean the others aren’t worth your attention—it’s just that my top 3 have that little something extra that really spoke to me. For other qualities or the questions they raise, every participant’s images are absolutely interesting.

For once, the variety of choices offered doesn’t even let me be sure my pick is really mine—go figure...

Kola series 1: 3 points. For the arithmetic, the expeditiousness, and the clinical efficiency. Herodotos series 2: 2 points. For the academic approach, the pedagogy, and the strict adherence to the theme. Solène series 2: 1 point. For the colorization, the pastels, and the beauty.

In the end, my choice is pretty simple because, in my opinion, there aren’t many true series in this session.

Kola, series 1 ❤️❤️❤️ You can’t get better than this for a series within a series!

Lillieone, series 2 ❤️❤️ A well-paced series. No surprise, we’re in Marciac! (Though I still prefer the blue version. To each their own...)

Rouquine38, series 1 ❤️ You can really see the talent of this wildlife photography expert here.

I would’ve loved to vote for Voyajou’s jeweler. That little story really amused me. The author probably doesn’t want to organize the next contest! 😉
