Hi there, Planning a trip in January to the Mekong Delta. Question: I’m stopping at Gieng Island—are there public buses from Ho Chi Minh City or Sa Dec that go near the ferry dock for this little island? Question: How do you get to Tram Chim National Park (the bird sanctuary) by bus? Finally, is there an app for public transport in southern Vietnam? Maybe some of you have been there before 🙂 Thanks for your tips!

Hi, For Chàm Chim Park, you can take a bus from Ho Chi Minh to Cao Lãnh, then arrange a car or scooter for the rest of the way. The bus station in Ho Chi Minh is Miền Tây Bus Station, I think.

Thanks for your reply, Is the Gare Mien Tāg bus station the only one serving the south? I really get the feeling it won’t be easy to get around without a car or scooter in the Delta to go wherever we want, like on Gieng Island. On the island, no problem—there are bikes and a homestay, but first you’ve got to get there 😉. Gonna have to improvise. Thanks and have a great day.

Yes, for the delta it's usually Mien Tây. I don’t know of a general app for buses—there are quite a few private companies. But I’ve traveled several times with this company; they’re pretty punctual and offer a lot of routes, including Cao Lãnh: https://futabus.vn/

Thanks, I’ve noted that for the buses! 🙂 I was able to see on Maps, thanks to your info, that Cao Lanh is right next to Gieng Island and a ferry to get there. A stop for a few days before heading to Tram Chim... Thanks so much!
