Visiting Montreal and nearby areas alone

hi everyone! I’d like to visit Montreal and the surrounding areas in August, and I’ve got 3 weeks of vacation. I’m traveling alone and will be visiting my daughter, who recently moved there. She’ll be working and only available in the evenings! So I’m torn between spending a week in Montreal, then taking a flight to Cuba, and returning to France from Havana—or staying in Montreal and exploring the nearby areas alone.

For my first idea—going to Cuba—is it feasible in terms of administrative formalities and legality? And for my second idea, is it possible to take buses? If so, is it too expensive? And are there many places served by them?

Thanks for your advice! Jocelyne

Hi, No administrative problems for going to Cuba from Montreal. But is August the right time for this destination? We (Quebecers) go there in the middle of winter to get a dose of heat to help us get through the winter... For getting around by bus, here’s a "unique" travel journal: https://voyageforum.com/discussion/quebec-en-transports-en-commun-juillet-aout-2016-d7640714/

good prep

Hi Jocelyne,

I see that Jean-Yves (Lescaribous) already gave you the link to my travel journal, but if you have any other questions about my bus trip, I’d be happy to answer them.

Happy planning!

Hi there,

Since you're already there (Montreal), why not take the opportunity to explore? Montreal is very walkable, neighborhood by neighborhood. Spend a day in the Laurentians, for example, and another on the South Shore. There are plenty of carpooling options. If you ask here, you’ll get tons of suggestions.

Good luck with your decisions and planning!

I think you might’ve mixed up the recipient…🙂

Thanks to all of you for your advice! I'm still hesitant between my two ideas: going from Montreal to Cuba or staying to explore Canada. What's certain is that I'll be spending a week in Montreal. Thanks again, and I might come back to you with more specific questions! See you soon! Jocelyne

Hi Eleni, Is your travel journal about Montreal still available? Someone shared it with another person back in 2017. That was a while ago. Thanks
