Juste pour savoir ou je pourrais caser une journée repos sans voiture, car je me retrouve avec un peu trop de SAN FRANCISCO.Avec tous sur place bouffe, magasin, etc.....Est ce que je doit mettre une journée de plus a LAS VEGAS derrière le 08 aout? Ca me ferai 4 jours en tout? Est ce trop?

4x4 NAVAJO (indien) 30$ par personne etHORSESHOE BEND 20mn a pied a caser. Ensuite direction MONUMENT VALLEY 2h30 et 150 kms. Dépose bagage au
THE VIEW HOTEL et tour des pitons en 2h avec notre voiture. Puis coucher de soleil.
MARDI 03 Grasse matinée ou pour les courageux , lever de soleil et se recoucher. Ensuite direction CANYON DE CHELLY, 2h30 et 150kms. Dodo a CHINLE et au passage, réserver pour le lendemain matin la visite en 4x4, 80$ par personne
MERCREDI 04 Lever tôt pour visite en 4x4 NAVAJOS du fond du canyon et l’après midi faire le haut en voiture(SOUTH RIM) et redodo a chinle.
JEUDI 05 Journée chargée.Lever a l’aube direction PETRIFIED FOREST et PAINTED DESERT 2H et 160 kms. Visite environ 3h, puis direction METEOR CRATER a 1h24.15 $ par personne, ferme a 17h, puis direction FLAGSTAFF 50 mn et 68 kms pour dodo.
VENDREDI 06 Direction GRAND CANYON par CAMERON, environ 2h.Coucher sur place ou a TUSAYAN.
SAMEDI 07 Matin a TUSAYAN, ballade en hélicoptère a 8h25 pendant 25 mn au dessus de G CANYON.150$ par personne.
Après midi, direction WILLIAMS, 1h15 et 96kms, puis arrêt a SELIGMAN 40mn et 70kms, puis prendre la route
66, environ 2h jusqu'à KINGMAN et nuit sur place.
DIMANCHE 08 Direction OATMAN, visite et on remonte à LAS VEGAS en passant par HOOVER DAM. Nuit a VEGAS.
LUNDI 09 Grasse matinée puis Direction DEATH VALLEY dodo au FURNACE CREEK RANCH. Visite BAD WATER, DANTES VIEW, ARTIST PALETT
A s’organiser car plus frais le soir pour les voir.
MARDI 10 Se lever avant le soleil pour aller a ZABRISKIE POINT puis direction LEE VINING, arret au passage a LONE PINE.Dodo LEE VINING.A PARTIR DE LA LA TEMPERATURE DEVIENS NORMAL !!!
MERCREDI 11 matin dodo, après midi BODIE et MONO LAKE et redodo LEE VINING.
JEUDI 12 Départ matin pour traverser YOSEMITE par la TIOGA ROAD et dodo au YOSEMITE village.
VENDREDI 13 Départ matin direction la sortie sud en passant par MARIPOSA GROVE, puis direction SAN FRANCISCO 4H
j'aime Vegas, je ne suis pas impartiale, mais vous avez 9 jours + ou - charges avant. alors une nouvelle pause, journee farniente a vegas, pourquoi pas. piscine ou visite tranquille les hotels pas encore explorés......
cela vous remettra en forme pour poursuivre sur les 5 jours de route avant SFO
petite attention, n'oubliez pas qu'a Vegas on se couche souvent tres tard.....😉
Comme l'as si bien dit Vazyvite, n'essaie pas de faire de l'originalité, et consulte un peu les carnets de reoutet autres blogs de voyageurs précédents.... et tu verras qu'il n'y a a peu près qu'un endroit pour se poser : Page, avec plein de chose à faire des les environs...
3 jours à Vegas, c'est déjà bcp trop, alors un 4ème...
Il n'y a pas de problème sans solution... et si il n'y a pas de solution, il n'y a pas de problème !
Je dirais: loue un bateau à Page pour visiter le Lac Powell. Sans bateau, je n'ai pas été émerveillé par le lac (mais il faisait gris). Mais avec un bateau, ça doit vraiment le faire!!
Sinon, je trouve ça dommage d'aller si loin pour perdre don temps dans une journée farniente au bord de la piscine d'un hôtel 😕 mais ce n'est que mon avis.
Il y a quand même des lieux qui mériteraient un peu plus que le temps prévu ! Genre à Zion ou à Yosemite...

Nous on était resté 2 nuits à Bryce.
- On a assisté au rodéo le premier soir en arrivant.
- Le lendemain on est descendu au fond du canyon à dos de mule avec "canyon trail ride" (et là faut bien une journée pour s'en remettre 😉).. donc relax et piscine l'aprem et diner country le soir !
On est resté 2 nuits également à Page :
- Inoubliable balade avec Paria outpost dans les coyottes buttes south la journée avant d'arriver à Page,
- Le lendemain : Visite de Antelope "lower", Location de kayak le lendemain (je déconseille) et balade à Horseshoes bend,
- Jour du départ : Antelope canyon "upper" avant de rejoindre MV et le superbe hotel the view (je vois que tu l'as programmé, très bon choix...en même temps, y'a pas beaucoup de choix.....).

J'aime bien aussi prévoir une journée (ou +) calme pour buller ou récupérer un peu.

L'avantage : c'est la saison creuse (de mai à octobre) et les prix y sont extraordinairement bas, yc dans les 4 *. Et la chaleur très sêche, ça se supporte bien, surtout quand il y a une super piscine.

au lieu de 2 nuits à Lee vining qui est un trou .Passe une nuit à Lone Pine , ou l'on peut faire de très belles ballades et possède un visitor center avec des gens très sympa!
Comme cela tu peux faire Bodie dans l'aprés-midi.
Une journée de plus à Yosémite 😉 serait bien.

Tu sais les merveilles qu'il y a là-bas ? Arches, Canyonlands, Dead Horse Point ? Sans parler de la magnifique route 12 entre Bryce et Capitol Reef, sur la route de Moab ? Et de la 128.
Pour te reposer authentique et "utile" 😉, prends-toi deux nuits au Red Cliffs Lodge à Moab, magnifique ranch où tu peux te reposer dans un panorama autrement inoubliable que l'atmosphère opressante de Las Vegas.

Ahh le red cliffs lodge...je l'ai repéré celui là !!
L'année passée nous ne sommes pas allés à Moab car cela aurait été au détriment d'autres places et de toute façon nous aurions du passer "rapido"... déjà que nous avons le sentiment d'avoir peu vu certains endroits 🤪. Il me semble qu'à Moab il vaut mieux rester plus d'1 journée ou 2...
Il faut faire des choix et se ménager des temps de repos car nous en 4ème semaine, on était fatigués.

Moab serait un bon choix pour se poser un peu! Moi j'ai prévu 6 nuits sur place avec un programme bien détaillé, on ne va pas s'ennuyer! 5 nuits et 4 jours sur place c'est bien aussi! De toute façon dans cette région, je pense qu'on peut y passer un mois entier sans s'ennuyer! N'est-ce pas le Spartiate? 😛
J'ai fait un peu le même circuit que toi en plus court (manque de temps). Ce qui me choque c'est le peu de temps que tu consacres à tourner dans monument valley, 2Heures c'est court (ca ma prit au moins le double avec arrêt à chaque points de vue)

2 jours à Moab, c'est sûr que c'est court, surtout si on veut se reposer un peu près de la piscine. Mais je n'aurais pas osé suggérer trop de nuits au Red Cliffs car c'est quand même un budget. Et aussi : c'est assez loin du centre (une bonne vingtaine de minutes). Loger dans le centre de Moab a aussi son charme... Perso, je ferais moit'/moit'. 2 jours de farniente au Red Cliffs, avec cheval et rafting, et resto sur place - il y a un brunch paraît-il délicieux le dimanche, tandis que les visites de Canyonlands et Arches, je les ferais depuis l'hôtel downtown, où je mangerais dans les petits restos.
Mais la team va adorer ce coin, c'est sûr ! 🙂

Oui oui tu as bien lu! 6 nuits!! c'est du luxe j'avoue 😛. Entre Arches, Canyonlands (Island In The Sky et The Needles), Dead Horse Point, Fisher Towers, Onion Creek, Negro Bill Canyon, Corona Arch etc je pense que ça vaut le coup de s'attarder!
Mon itinéraire est plus ou moins bouclé, j'ai beaucoup hésité sur certaines parties. Rien ne dit que je ne change pas encore. Par contre rien réservé pour le moment 😕. Petits problèmes 🤪.
D'ailleurs pour Moab je crois que je vais jeter mon dévolu sur l'Inca Inn où il me semble tu es allée cet été 😉.
Oui, nous sommes allés à l'Inca Inn. Pas le grand luxe, mais un motel très clean et très sympa, avec tout le confort. J'en garde un excellent souvenir (et le pain frais du matin, miam !).

Oui c'est ce que j'ai lu sur ton carnet, ça m'a donné envie d'y aller. Il est pas trop cher, et propre avec le petit déjeuner compris avec le pain maison, c'est le principal 😉. On sera le plus souvent dehors de toute façon!
Il est bien pratique pour, par exemple, piquer une tête ou faire une sieste l'après-midi après une visite le matin et un petit repas en ville, avant de se remettre en route en fin d'après-midi vers les parcs, et de retourner se balader en ville le soir pour resto et/ou shopping. Le Red Cliffs est moins relax pour ça, car beaucoup plus de route (certes magnifique) à faire à chaque fois.

L'inca Inn a un bon rapport qualité prix. Mais la chambre (2 queen beds) que j'ai eue était vraiment petite, salle de bains compris, par rapport à tous les autres hôtels et motels que j'ai occupés.
L'intérêt de Moab est qu'on y trouve de tout, restaurants pour tous les goûts, supermarchés, banques et agences pour activités sportives.
C'est tout près de Arches, et pas trop loin de Dead Horse Point et de Canyonlands, à visiter de préférence tôt le matin ou au coucher du soleil pour la luminosité.
On peut faire Shafer trail, et d'autres randos dans le coin. C'est donc le coin rêvé pour une halte prolongée.

Il y a un resto, oui. C'est pour cela que je trouve qu'y rester deux jours, tranquilles, en "vase clos", ça peut être pas mal. Mais après, ça doit commencer à lasser de voir toujours le même resto, d'être dans le même cocon, coupés de la réalité et de la "vraie vie" (c'est l'impression que ça m'a fait).
Pour visiter Arches et Canyonlands/DHP, c'est moins bien situé que les hôtels de Moab : tu rajoutes 20 minutes. Pour visiter Professor Valley, Castle Valley, Onion Creek et Fisher Towers, c'est plus près que Moab, car "au coeur" de tout ça (d'où les paysages environnants somptueux). Et il est SUR la 128, donc ça, c'est fait aussi 😉
Oui, si je me souviens bien, il y a des kitchenettes. C'est vrai que c'est aussi une autre option !
Le rafting est, paraît-il très très calme. Pas de rapides ! 😉 Enfin, j'ai dit rafting, mais en gros, je voulais dire "activités sur la rivière", qui longe l'hôtel. Il me semble qu'ils en proposent pas mal, ainsi que des balades à cheval, un peu comme à Monument Valley. Enfin, je m'avance peut-être beaucoup là. 😊
J'ai cru comprendre que tu aimais bien le shopping et les petits souvenirs... C'est là aussi l'intérêt de Moab 😉.
Franchement, Moab, c'est très sympa. Il y a plein de restos et de boutiques. On peut s'y balader à pied le soir, une glace à la main, rentrer dans toutes les petites échoppes d'art... Moi j'ai adoré. Ca ne prend pas trois heures car c'est petit, mais c'est franchement sympa. Et pas du tout "la ville".

Et pourquoi pas un Bed et Breakfast ? Pour 6 nuits, tu peux obtenir un prix. C'est une autre ambiance et le petit-déj est inclus. J'étais au Desert Hill B&B au sud de Moab à quelques minutes du centre mais quand même à l'extérieur au calme. Belles terrasses et jardins individuels et un jacuzzi sous les étoiles accessible à toute heure : tenu par un couple italo-américain charmant. Petit-déj d'enfer ! Possibilité de mettre des choses dans l'immense frigo et d'utiliser le micro-onde pour manger sur place. Cela change des éternels hôtels et motels 😉

Au fait pour en rajouter un peu plus : pour nous 5 jours à Moab auron été un minimum. Nous sommes quand même retournés 3 fois à Arches, 1 pour la journée, 1pour le coucher du soleil, 1 pour le lever du soleil.....et ça c'est fabuleux...................😏😄😏

je n'avais aps remarqué que le red cliffs était éloigné du village ! il faut dire que sur tripadvisor il y a visiblement un bug puisqu'ils le situe près du centre de moab!!!

Cala dit, je reste tout de même emballée !!! le fait d'être un peu éloigné de la ville c'est pas mal aussi pour éviter les dépenses (ma fille et le shopping!!!!!!!!!!!) et se ressourcer...
Pour les B&B j'adore, d'ailleurs j'en ai prévu pour l'an prochain; le problème c'est qu'ils n'ont pas toujours de chambre pour 4 personnes et sont souvent plus chers que les hotels aux USA ! 🤪

Dommage que flagstaff ne te dise rien, c'est une ville tres sympa, qui merite juste un peu d'attention pour choisir son hotel loin du train.
Mais en été il y a plein d'animation le soir, c'est une ville tres vivante.
De plus aux alentours, tu as le Harley de bellemont ( bon ca faut aimer), et juste en face un bar resto, decor un peu dingue facon années 60, ou tu te fais griller toi meme
ta viande sur le barbecue avec tous les epices que tu veux. Ca parait nul, mais en fait tout le monde etant autour du grill, tu en profites pour faire des rencontres et passer un tre bon moment.
Bien sur , il y a egalement Sedona bien sur, et entre les 2 le Slide rock state park, pour aller te rafraichir et faire de belle glissade, et toute cette vallée ( Oak creek je crois) qui est tres joli. cela permet de passer une journée de detente sympa.
Il n'y a que deux façons de vivre sa vie : l'une en faisant comme si rien n'était un miracle, l'autre comme si tout était un miracle.

Ce n'est pas un "détour", c'est un autre parcours, plus long, certes, mais tellement plus "riche" !
A titre d'info, j'ai fait Bryce-Moab par la 12 en une journée (départ vers 10h, arrivée vers 16h30 à Moab). C'est très speed, mais on n'avait pas d'autre choix si on voulait rester un peu plus longtemps à Moab. J'ai beaucoup hésité mais au final, je ne le regrette pas. Franchement, c'est tout à fait faisable. Cependant, il est plus "sage" de faire une étape à Torrey. Ainsi, on profite bien de la 12 entre Bryce et Torrey, et le lendemain, on passe par Capitol Reef et on rejoint Moab. Ca fait 3 heures de route par jour, c'est pas énorme.
De Moab, tu peux rebifurquer sur Chelly si tu y tiens, ou redescendre directement sur Monument Valley, ce que nous avons fait. Là aussi, il y a moins de 3 heures de route.
En gros, si tu laisses tomber Chelly et Flagstaff, ça donne :
Bryce - Torrey - Moab - Monument Valley - Page - Grand Canyon
Remanier son parcours, pourquoi pas ? C'est le signe qu'on réfléchit à ses vacances, qu'on ne les bâcle pas. Inutile de réserver des hôtels un an à l'avance (sauf peut-être dans les parcs) ! (et en même temps, si tu en réserves, tu peux toujours les annuler après) Je dois avoir remanié le mien 6 ou 7 fois, avec annulation de réservations à chaque fois ! 😉

Hello everyone! Really damaged due to flooding caused by runoff after forest fires (a total mess!), does anyone in this friendly forum have any updates on the Apache Trail between Apache Junction and Roosevelt Dam? Is there still a section of the road that’s tough to navigate?
We're leaving at the end of June and will be driving the route between Buffalo and Cody. We’ve already booked our accommodations and a rodeo in Cody, but during the day, we’ll be driving between the two and I’m unsure about the itinerary.
Which route do you think is the most pleasant, interesting, or scenic between:
- The northern route via Highway 14 with Sheridan, Lowell, etc.
- The southern route with Highways 16/20/14, passing by Loaf Mountain Overlook, Powder River Pass, Ten Sleep Canyon...
We’ll be in a car, so we should be able to drive on any road.

I’m almost done planning our September road trip. After our 3-night visit to Sequoia, we’ll have a stopover night in Coalinga (to break up the drive). We’ll be staying two nights in Monterey and would like to stop along the way to visit one side of Pinnacles National Park. We’re torn between the West entrance and the East entrance, and we’d like to do a short hike of no more than 2 hours since we don’t want to arrive too late in Monterey.
This park is split into two distinct zones with no connection between them, and the mileage from Coalinga to Monterey is pretty much the same for both. Which area do you recommend visiting—east or west? And which route is the most scenic?
I’ve spotted two short hikes:
- East: Moses Spring to Rim Trail Loop
- West: Balconies Cliffs Cave Loop
Has anyone been there, or do you have another hike to suggest?

After our first trip as a young couple to the West in 2007 (yes, that doesn’t make us any younger!), we’re planning to go back in 2028, but this time as a family of four! (We have two boys who’ll be 5½ and 13 years old in the summer of 2028.)
Our plan is to combine a few big cities (SF and LA, maybe San Diego) with national parks and state parks, mostly!
Ideally, we’d like to leave at the end of June and head back to France around July 19–20, so we can enjoy the first week of the Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
Since we already did the "loop" in 2007, there are must-see places we absolutely want to revisit—and especially share with our kids: Bryce Canyon, Yosemite, and above all, the Grand Canyon, which is still the most incredible thing I’ve ever seen on Earth!
On the other hand, some places didn’t leave a big impression on us for various reasons, so we’re not making them a priority: Antelope Canyon, Monument Valley, for example.
We’re planning ahead, but might as well be smart about it😏
Do you have any tips for a fun and doable itinerary over about 20–25 days with kids, without rushing?

Just a quick question about King Canyon and Sequoia National Park.
Before our night in Miramonte, we plan to visit King Canyon. The next stop will be two nights in Three Rivers to explore Sequoia National Park. I wanted to go all the way to Roaring River Falls on the King Canyon Scenic Byway and then turn back to head to Miramonte. Since we’re coming from Oakhurst, Google Maps says it’s 300 km and 5 hours of driving. Since we also want to hike to see the sequoias (Big Stump Area and Grand Grove) before tackling the King Canyon Scenic Byway, the timing’s going to be tight. How far do you recommend going before turning back to miss as few points of interest as possible on the King Canyon Scenic Byway? Thanks for your advice, and have a great evening!

I’d like to travel along I-15N from San Diego to Las Vegas with my mom, who’s 67. We’ve explored Northern California and the California Coast over the past two years and now want to continue through the desert.
There are several attractions along the way:

- Desert Discovery Center and visit the Old Woman meteorite
- Joshua Tree National Park
- Mojave Desert
- Mojave National Preserve
- Anza-Borrego Desert State Park
- Silverwood Lake
My mom has back issues that prevent her from hiking or walking on trails with elevation changes. Is it possible to visit these places by car, or are the routes flat enough?
I’d love for her to experience the desert with an itinerary adapted to her condition. I’m also open to other points of interest that aren’t mentioned. We have 3-4 days for the trip, so we’re not in a rush—just want to explore.
I’d love to take a road trip and visit Nova Scotia. I’d appreciate some info on the best cities to see and the most interesting spots. The trip should last about 10 to 15 days, staying in hotels or motels. Thanks in advance!

Are most of the viewpoints (Balancing Rock, Granite Cave, Bonsai Rock, etc.) right by the road, or do you have to hike to reach them?
**Donner Memorial State Park:**
Is it worth making a detour to Truckee to visit this park and the Truckee historic downtown?

I’m a total USA addict. I’ve already done several road trips, including the East Coast and West Coast.
I’m here today because I’m planning to go back for another road trip on the West Coast. Possibly with one of my sisters and a couple of friends. It’s still just a plan for now, but I’m working on an itinerary in the meantime. Ideally, I’d leave in 2026, but I don’t have the exact dates yet—maybe April-May or September-October.
My last trip to the West Coast was in September 2014. We went for 2 weeks, but this time it’d be 3 weeks. What made me want to go back was simply a colleague who just left today. As I’m writing this, he’s on the plane. I’m so happy for him, but now all I can think about is going back.
Since I recently went to NY, I noticed that prices have really gone up. I assume the same is true for the West Coast? For 2 people over 3 weeks, what budget should I expect? We’re the type to watch our spending and find great tips.
I think we’ll arrive in San Francisco like the first time and leave from either Los Angeles or Las Vegas.

I assume many of you already know, but the America the Beautiful annual pass, which was $80, will increase to $250 starting January 1, 2026.
So if you're planning to travel before the end of December 2026, it's in your best interest to buy your pass in December 2025, since it will still cost $80 and be valid until the end of December 2026 if you purchase it in December 2025.
This price increase only applies to non-U.S. residents.
Additionally, for those who planned to visit just one park, a $100 surcharge per person will apply to access a list of 11 national parks...
For example, if there are 4 of you in a car, you’ll have to pay $35 + $400,
which comes to $435 to visit one of the 11 parks on the list (I don’t have all of them... Bryce, Zion, Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Grand Teton, etc.).
Total madness.
The goal is to push people who only visit one park into buying the annual pass.
Last point: free entry days are over for non-residents!

We just finished 9 days in the American West and wanted to share our experience because we had an amazing time.
I know some of you might ask, why use an agency? Honestly, we didn’t really feel like doing all the driving and planning, especially since we didn’t know the area at all. And since our English isn’t great, having French-speaking guides was a big comfort.
We found Emmanuelle and Isabelle, and wow, they were fantastic. It was just the two of us with them, so it was a truly VIP, ultra-personalized experience. The service was really personalized. They adapted to our pace and preferences, and we could stop whenever we wanted to take photos. It’s the luxury of being in a small private group—you’re not just a number on a big bus.
In short, we really felt like we were traveling with friends rather than professional guides. Everything’s included in the price (hotel pickup, meals, park entries, etc.), so the value for money is fair.
We loved it so much that we’re already planning to come back next year to explore other areas with them. I think we’ve caught the American West bug—it’s all we can think about, and we can’t wait to return.
