Air France Baggage Problem

I’ve been traveling regularly for over twenty years,

but this is the first time an airline has treated me as poorly as Air France.

Two trips, two problems. The latest:

Trip from Seoul to Rennes. Last leg from Paris CDG to Rennes with Air France.

I arrive in Paris and go straight to Air France to get my boarding pass to Rennes. They assure me my baggage is continuing to Rennes.

Arriving in Rennes, no baggage—same as five other people.

The Air France office is closed, and the airport staff tell me there’s rarely anyone there.

With the help of the airport staff, I file a claim online, and my baggage is almost immediately located. As a result, I’m told I’ll have it the next day.

Four days later, the baggage is still in the same place at CDG—nothing’s moving.

The problem is Air France has no customer service. What they call customer service is a department that takes an hour to answer and just repeats what’s on the online form. No coordination, no way to get things moving. I guess Air France would rather pay the compensation after 21 days than actually do something.

I’ve had lost baggage on other trips, but this is the first time I’ve seen such indifference and lack of professionalism.

hi in Rennes—have you been to the airport’s baggage service and not the airline’s? Otherwise, you’ll need to contact a consumer association to file a legal claim since the airline is being negligent.

We've already seen reports showing piles of luggage that fell during transfers and weren't processed at Roissy, even though they were tagged. Plus, travelers often put their contact details inside their bags, hoping they'll be opened if lost or damaged. Actually, the airport seems to think compensation costs them less than handling it properly :/ I also recommend reaching out to a consumer association. Keep us posted on how it goes. Good luck.

Hello, Before jumping into legal action or turning to consumer associations, maybe it's worth figuring out: 4 days after, the baggage still hasn't moved. And today, how many days is it? 5, 15, 20? You mentioned picking up your boarding pass at CDG. So was your baggage checked in again in Paris, or had it been checked through to Rennes from the start? I know Rennes airport well—I've been using it regularly for over 20 years. It's true that the AF counter has been empty for years... but there *is* a baggage service right at the exit of the arrivals hall. It's a very small airport, so I assume that's the service you dealt with. Piles of stacked luggage—I've sadly seen worse, like in Geneva or Frankfurt... Last year, with AF, my baggage didn’t arrive in Spain in the evening when I flew in from... Rennes. It was delivered the next afternoon to Andújar (over 250 km away). In the meantime, I was kept updated on its journey via AF emails. Your situation is truly frustrating, but unfortunately, it’s not unique—especially during peak season, no matter the airline. Good luck...

Hi, apparently it's sorted—they just wrote to say they’ll send it back this afternoon.

The most frustrating part, as so many people mention on social media, is the over-automation and the near-impossibility of talking to a real person. So when there’s a problem, no one knows how to react. And on top of that, it’s impossible to get any forecasts because no one knows anything.

At the very least, I’ve learned over these 5 days that when someone from Air France tells me, “It’s scheduled for tomorrow,” it means: I have no idea and I don’t care.

it's planned for tomorrow, that means: I don't know and I don't care.

No, it means that's what he sees on his screen. He may or may not care—you don’t know.

Anyway, not to beatify Air France, but just to say there are also people who do their best, no matter the company: two years ago, while traveling in northern Sweden, I had to return urgently. In my rush, I messed up my booking for a Stockholm–Rennes flight via Amsterdam. I made a one-day mistake that would’ve had me leaving Stockholm before I even arrived! So I called Air France customer service (yes, I did say customer service at 01 48 59 20 00). The agent fixed it right away, but while I was expecting an extra fee, she told me the ticket price had simply doubled. By the time she looked for another solution, the price had gone up again! So she decided to use her discretion and kept my ticket at the original price.

Just a little positive anecdote...
