To complement my second photo, here’s a staircase leading up to a grain attic in Medenine.

When I first went to Angkor, there were no installations at all.

We climbed up the original stone staircases and it was super steep !

That hasn’t been possible for years.

I also remember the staircases for climbing the famous temple known for its sunset views. It was in really bad shape. Nowadays, you can barely see any trace of them.

That’s Phnom Bakheng—you can’t see much of it anymore, but people still climb to the top for the sunset. (oops, I didn’t take a photo of the staircase )

Hi there 😉

famous temple for its sunset views.

famous

😕

Don’t waste your time or energy climbing to the top of this so-called "famous" hill. It’s the most basic/cheesy sunset you’ll ever see. The same goes for sunrise at the Grand Temple. Unless you’re treating it as a sociological experiment 😛

As soon as a place (becomes famous and) gains a reputation as paradise, it heads straight to hell. Paul Theroux

My little rant about Angkor is below:

Is this photo yours? It looks like a Martin Parr photo.

When it comes to staircases, I always think of Escher 😲

if you waste your energy climbing to the top of this "famous" hill. It’s the most cliché/tacky sunset spot. Same goes for the sunrise at the Grand Temple. Unless you see it as a sociological experience 😛

I’m okay with the sunset (we’d just arrived on-site from France, so it was already a great introduction), but the sunrise was one of my most magical travel experiences.

And this photo is my all-time favorite (because discovering Angkor had been a long-time dream, because that sunrise was magical, and because my kids were little back then 😛)

Alright, back to the topic! ;)

The stairs at the start of the climb up the Dune of Pilat. The only thing in common with the off-topic photo before is that my kids are in this one too :P

Those famous red stairs in Times Square (okay, you have to guess they're red—they're always packed with people...)

Photo 1: Doï Tapang, Chumphon, Thailand. Getting some height to admire one of the most beautiful viewpoints in the region.

This photo reminds me of the final scene in *The Truman Show*, when Jim Carrey climbs up the set and exits ;). Doesn’t it for you?

Photo No. 4 Stepwell of Chand Baori, during a trip to Rajasthan. Here, the staircase becomes almost a geometric work of art. Hundreds of perfectly symmetrical steps plunge toward the water, creating the impression of a mineral labyrinth.

This place fascinated me with its blend of beauty and ingenuity. Back in the day, these stepwells were used to store water while providing a cool space for people to gather. Discovering it, I felt like I was looking at architecture designed as much for survival as for awe.

Ah, I looked through my photos of baori (or vav in Gujarat) but didn’t find all of them—and none that were really satisfying. Definitely some great material for this theme.

Oh, totally! One of the masterpieces of the '90s 😉

I’d had the same idea but figured it’d be too much India for my part on the theme. Christelle seems to prove you can never have enough India 🤷‍♀️

Hi there,

This is the staircase that most members of this forum love climbing on the first day of their trip—and love descending a little less on the last day.

Photo taken in Blagnac this morning, at my request, by a friend leaving for Split... Thanks, Michele!

Mind the step...! 😉
