Hi there,
I’m filling out a visa application for Thailand on the official thaievisa site, and I’m unsure about my second first name on my passport, which I need to enter in the online form: Jean-François. The site doesn’t accept hyphens or "ç"
I assume the site will accept "Jean Francois" as my "middle name," but I’d like to be sure this won’t lead to my visa being rejected...
Thanks for your feedback! :)

Hi everyone!
I’m planning to go to Thailand for 90 days (departure on 20/06).
- I thought I’d read that the processing time for the E-Visa had been reduced to just a few days since June 2025 (so very recent). Can you confirm? However, on the embassy’s website and when I try calling them, they’re still quoting 3-4 weeks. Hasn’t this been updated yet? Because I’m starting to sweat here…🤪
- I was a bit hasty in declaring the funds to prove my solvency. Should I wait for their response rather than submitting a second visa application, which might conflict with the first one?
Thanks for your feedback! Have a great day

Hi there,
Like every time I travel to India, I get an Indian phone line to have phone access and 4G at a ridiculously low cost compared to what my French operator charges me. Unfortunately, this year, my online purchases (transport bookings on Cleartrip or IRCTC...) aren't going through because my bank requires SMS verification on my French line, which I don’t have ;(( Before, I had the option to receive the verification code by email, but not anymore. My bank isn’t responding to my requests to update my phone number... So now, I’m stuck. I tried opening a Paytm account since PayPal doesn’t work in India, but again, I need to verify my card with an SMS code... I also tried funding my Paytm account via a PayPal transfer, but apparently, that’s not possible. Does anyone have a solution to my problem?
Thanks, Fred

Hello,
I’m a resident of France, and my husband and I have submitted an application for permanent residency in Canada after obtaining our CSQ. Our application is still being processed. My husband is the principal applicant.
I need to travel to Montreal alone for a few days soon for work-related reasons.
If we happen to receive confirmation of permanent residency in the meantime, could there be an issue with me crossing the border? I don’t want to activate the permanent residency—just enter as a tourist and make a quick round trip.
On the IRCC website, it says that dependents cannot arrive in Canada before the principal applicant. I understand this is because only the principal applicant can activate permanent residency by going through immigration.
However, does this also exclude temporary stays for dependents? Since my eTA should still be valid as long as the permanent residency isn’t activated, I should still be able to enter Canada as a tourist, right?
Thanks so much for your feedback!

Hi everyone,
Could you let me know if a mistake on the arrival airport for Vietnam could cause problems regarding your recent trips?
I put a different airport than Hanoi, but I need to go to Hanoi.
Thanks!
Hello fellow travelers,
I’m planning my trip to Madagascar for next March and I’m looking for info on how to get a visa and its cost for 13 days in Mada.
I’ve read that you can get the visa directly at Ivato, but what’s the price for the length of my stay?
Also, can you pay in euros?
Thanks for your tips and advice—they’re always welcome and super helpful.
Hi there,
Do I need a return ticket? Proof of insurance and a hotel reservation?? I’m French.
Also, is there any control on meds and sleeping pills?? Thanks a bunch!
Hi everyone,
We’re leaving for Australia soon and renting a car for the different legs of our trip.
We have our French license plus the international driving permit, but I read in the rental agency’s rules that they require an international permit written in English.
However, on the "France Diplomatie" website, it doesn’t mention that the international permit has to be in English.
For those of you who’ve already been to Australia—can you confirm whether our French-language international driving permit is enough, or should I get an urgent translation?
Thanks for your feedback—takeoff is August 20th!🤪

Hi there,
I’m looking for info on the visa for India: duration, cost, and a reliable website to apply.
Thanks!
Hey everyone, hope you're doing well! :)
I’m planning to go back to Thailand at the start of next year—once just wasn’t enough 😅
I’ve seen that nothing’s official yet, but they’re considering reducing the visa-free stay from 60 to 30 days. If I book for 58 days like last time and they change the rules last minute, what happens?
It takes forever to get a visa—I saw you have to prove you have enough funds to cover your stay. How much money do you need in your account?
Thanks!
Hi there,
We’re planning to drive to Senegal by car. We’re a little nervous because it’ll be our first time making the trip with a car that isn’t ours. We’re doing the trip to deliver it to its owner. Has anyone here done this before? What documents will we need?
Thanks in advance for your tips!

Hi,
recently Namibia introduced a visa requirement for French travelers (among others). I’ve seen there’s a dedicated website for obtaining it.
But my question is about getting it on arrival at Windhoek Airport. I’d love any info on this: how fast it is, cost, documents needed, etc.
Thanks for your feedback!
Happy travels to you all
Hi everyone,
I’m planning my trip to Madagascar for the fall and starting to think about getting my visa. After reading through different posts, I’m a bit unsure about the best way to go about it. Is it better to apply for an e-visa (and if so, which official website?) or just queue up on arrival? It seems there are "unofficial"—and therefore fraudulent—sites out there, and that you’ll have to queue either way (which I’m not thrilled about since I’m arriving at 11 PM). What do you think?
Hi there,
I need some help—I’d like to bring an Egyptian friend to France, but booking an appointment for the visa on the TLS site is impossible! Visa applications usually go through the TLScontact center, which is authorized by the French Consulate General in Cairo. You’re supposed to book an appointment via their platform, but I’ve been trying for weeks with no luck. Still no available slots!! GETTING AN APPOINTMENT ON THE TLS SITE IS MISSION IMPOSSIBLE! What can I do? Do you have any other suggestions, please?

Hi there, community.
So, I was in Vietnam at the end of the year and early January, and wanting to lighten my backpack a bit, I sent a package from Hanoi to Barcelona since I was continuing my trip. It cost me an arm and a leg, and unfortunately, it didn’t even reach its destination for some reason I still don’t know, even after asking multiple times. It’s been returned to the Hanoi Post Office, and obviously, I’m nowhere near Vietnam now. Despite efforts on both sides, I feel like I’m having a dialogue of the deaf with the Vietnamese postal service via email, and phone calls are impossible. Is there anyone on the ground who could help me sort this mess out, please?
Or any ideas on how to resolve the situation?
Thanks in advance

Good evening,
I booked a one-month stay in an Airbnb in Thailand.
Is the booking confirmation enough for the 3-month single-entry tourist visa?
hi,
I’m traveling to the United States via Canada. I’ve already arranged an AVE for the Canadian transit,
but I’ve lost the email with the AVE number.
Could you tell me how to retrieve this AVE number?
Thanks in advance for your help
Hi,
We’re heading to Tanzania at the end of the year and I’d like to know where I can apply for the e-visas because I’ve found some sites, but they’re charging more than what I was told.
It’s not the official site, and I’m struggling to find it.
Do you have the direct official link, please? Thanks so much for your help! 😊
Hi everyone,
Four questions: - What is the official website of the Egyptian Embassy in France? - What is the official procedure for obtaining a multiple-entry visa (non-E-visa for French citizens) for someone residing in France who is not an EU citizen (on the list of countries required to obtain a visa before departure)? Is the Marseille Consulate authorized to handle this? - Finally, what’s the cost and processing time? 79 € or more?
Thanks in advance

Hi fellow travelers,
Can you tell me if it's possible to exchange money at Ivato or if it's better to do it at banks in Tana?
Which banks are the most "reliable"?
Regarding ATMs, what's the maximum amount you can withdraw in one go?
Thanks for your tips!
I’m planning a trip to Norway in June 2025 and I’d like to know how to handle tolls with a contract like I read about
Hi, I went to submit my visa application to visit my partner’s family. We’re religiously married in France. I provided an accommodation certificate, pay slips, travel insurance, and a document stating we’re religiously married—signed, etc. I want to travel with my partner’s son, who has both Algerian and French passports and is a minor. So, I told them he lives with us. Since his father has custody, they didn’t charge me anything and said they’d call me back because my file is going to a committee. I also told them I needed to leave by July 15th. This is the Lille consulate—has this ever happened to any of you?,
Hello,
Thinking this might be useful for VF members who, like me, want to get their French driver’s license translated for a car rental in Japan, here’s the email I received this morning from the consular authorities in Tokyo:

Hi everyone,
I’m heading to the United States in August, specifically Grand Junction, Colorado, and I’d love to hear about your experiences with renting a car in this slightly tricky situation:
I still have my old French driver’s license (the pink paper version, still valid),
I didn’t have time to get an International Driving Permit (IDP),
And I plan to use a Visa debit card, not a credit card.
I’ve booked a car with Budget. I’ve seen that they *can* accept debit cards under certain conditions, especially at airport locations, but there are often high hold amounts for the deposit, and sometimes requirements like a return ticket or an extra ID. - Has anyone rented a car in the US under these conditions before? - Was the paper license accepted without any issues? - Did the debit card cause problems when putting down the security deposit? Any tips, personal stories, or warnings are super welcome! 😊 Thanks in advance!

Hello,
I’m from Quebec, and my driver’s license is in French. I’m planning to rent a car in France in July 2025 with Sixt. When I check their website, it says I need to present my driver’s license and passport, so I wouldn’t need an International Driving Permit. However, if I keep reading, they specify this:
«It is recommended for customers whose driver’s license was issued by a state not listed here (https://www.sixt.com/help-center/articles/permis-de-conduire/) to bring an International Driving Permit or a French translation by an organization listed in section b), as authorities may request to see the license during official checks.»
When I click the link, I get an error page, so I can’t get all the information.
Has any Quebecer rented a car through Sixt in France and could tell me if I can avoid the translation fees for a license that’s already in French (mine and my partner’s)?
Thanks so much!
Hi,
I successfully applied for an ESTA for my family and myself for an upcoming trip to New York in August.
But here’s what I didn’t realize: my two older daughters are leaving for Costa Rica in a week with a layover in the United States, something I wasn’t aware of when I filled out the ESTA application.
The person handling their application is stuck because one is already on file... My question is: is this ESTA valid for their layover even though it’s not specified on the application (since a U.S. address was provided)? If not, how can I reapply for their transit ESTA?
Thanks for your help!
Hi, do you have a contact to receive my 4x4 in Cap de la Réunion?
Thanks
Hi everyone,
I booked my round-trip ticket from Paris to Phnom Penh (way too quickly, of course) because I’d like to start in Laos. I’m traveling from November 5th to December 3rd. So, I’m wondering: when I arrive in Phnom Penh on the 6th and take a flight directly to Laos without leaving the airport, do I still need a visa for Cambodia? Also, which airport in Laos would you recommend—Luang Prabang or Vientiane?
Thanks so much for your advice!

Hey everyone! A small group of us are heading to Gabon for a research mission. Everyone got their visa without any issues through the e-visa site, and it only took a few days.
Except for a friend and me. We applied early, and three weeks later, still no news. And we leave in a week...
A colleague on-site tried to help us, but no updates so far.
My questions:
- Has this ever happened to you? - What are the solutions? (I’ve already tried calling, but it doesn’t work. The email contact form doesn’t work either. The Gabonese embassy isn’t functional, and they gave me a number that never answers and where you can’t even leave a message anymore.) - Can this be resolved easily at the airport? - Am I totally screwed?
Clean record, and I haven’t been to any sketchy countries. Brand-new passport...
Thanks in advance for your help! !
