Je m'apprête à partir en stage au Chili à Santiago (de février à novembre 2011) et je voudrais savoir si, comme en Argentine, nous sommes limités pour retirer (je parle pour un retrait) à une certaine somme. En Argentine, nous pouvions retire 60 euros max à chaque retrait (que l'on pouvait répéter 10 fois mais cela impliquait beaucoup de frais)
Je serai payée en euros sur un compte français et je voulais savoir qu'elle était l'opération la moins couteuse pour moi.
Autre question, je serai payée 500euros / mois au chili (et déjà logée) est ce que c'est correct?
et sinon, la vie à Santiago, des conseils, sorties....?
Tu peux retirer 200.000 CLP par jour au DAB Chiliens. En 2 retrait, t'auras retirer tes 500 Euros, cela ne te coutera pas trop cher.
Cependant avec 330,000 CLP par mois même si tu es logèe, tu ne vas pas faire de folies... J'espère que cette somme est nette !!!
Ce salaire est un bas salaire avec lequel les Européens peuvent avoir des difficultés á vivre.

Non !!!!! pas plus cher, cela serait difficile mais avec un Euro á 650 CLP et l'inflation á 10% pendant les années 2007/2009, le différentiel de coût de la vie entre la France et le Chili devient plus faible qu'autrefois.
La vie est pas chère si tu sais vivre chichement et á la Chilienne....

Si tu vis avec 500 euros en France je pense que tu n'auras pas de problème au Chili même si comme il est dit plus haut il faudra bien surveillé tes dépenses. Ton stage c'est au même endroit que ton logement ?
Ceci dit retirer CL$200.000 d'un coup c'est peut-être pas la chose que je recommanderai de faire, parfois il est mieux de payer des frais bancaires en plus que de voir disparaitre la somme complète.

Non il n'y a vraiment pas de quoi s'inquiéter, si on te paye le logement et la nourriture tu auras un reste à vivre de 330.000 pesos par mois pour la locomotion et les sorties, c'est vraiment très bien. Le seul truc, c'est que tu auras sans doute l'envie de voyager dans la pays, et bien que ce ne soit pas excessivement cher de voyager au Chili l'argent peut partir vite en voyageant, donc il faut faire un peu attention.
Sinon pour le concert de Shakira c'est un très mauvais exemple, en France un concert de Shakira coûte entre 50 et 70€.

Une d'elle est que la salle de concert de Santiago qui propose à Shakira de se déplacer au Chili est mise en concurrence avec les salles des autres pays, c'est à dire que Shakira se déplacera chez le plus offrant. Une fois que le chèque que la salle de concert fera à Shakira et toute son équipe est fixé, l'organisation du concert est alors obligée de fixer un prix qui permettra de rentrer suffisamment d'argent.
Par contre le prix d'un concert d'un groupe local est plus représentatif du coût de la vie local, et là c'est nettement moins cher.

Euh..... le mot correct n'est pas "suffisamment" mais "un maximum" d'argent.
Le seul pays au monde où l'on s'endette sur 3 ou 6 mois pour dire "j'ai vu Madonna" ou "je suis allé au concert de Shakira" ?
Les prix des concerts "internationaux" sont complétement déconnectés de la réalité.... grâce á l'anesthésie de l'accés au crédit facile et..... cher....

Oui mais la grande différence c'est qu'un groupe local va avec grande peine remplir une sale alors que Shakira et Cie vont remplir des stades. C'est représentatif d'une partie de la population qui comme le dit Kalchaqui est capable de s'endetter jusqu'au cou pour pouvoir j'y étais et de ne pas manger correctement.
Et en regardant les nouvelles de TVN on a l'impression de passer pour le dernier des cons pour ne pas se ruer acheter des entrées à ces concerts, de ne pas profiter de la chute du dolar pour s'acheter une TV de 50" et de ne pas passer ses vacances au Brésil.
Toutes ces différences font qu'il est difficile de dire combien il faut d'argent pour vivre au Chili, il y a beaucoup de facteurs qui entre ligne de compte. kginger qui a lancé ce sujet parait avoir des nécessités pas très élevées et peut-être peut s'en tirer avec 500 euros mais mois nous avec cette somme nous ne passons pas 2 semaines.

En effet la discussion entre répondants est partie bien loin, alors que vos questions étaient simples.
Concernant les retraits, je crois que la réponse a été globalement donnée. Cependant si vous fonctionnez avec un compte domicilié en France, c'est bien votre banque française qui doit vous préciser les frais selon le type de retrait et cette information il vaux mieux de l'avoir avant votre départ.
Concernant la somme effectivement ce n'est pas beaucoup. Mais sachiez que beaucoup des chiliens vivent avec beaucoup moins et en particulier les jeunes.
Comme j'ai cru comprendre que c'est votre cas (jeune), si vous êtes débrouillard et si vous souhaitez vivre comme les chiliens, cela devrait vous suffire.
Coté voyages et nourriture. L'auto stop fonctionne très bien et le pays est l'un des plus surs de l'Amérique latine. De plus les bus de basse sont bon marché... Pour manger bien et très bon marché... Voici "le secret": bien évidement évitez les restos pour touristes ou pour classe moyenne. Allez au centre des villes et vous allez trouver des petits bistros qui servent la "colacion" (plat du jour). Les "petits employés" chiliens mangent que cela. Et encore moins cher et vraiment bon, une vraie "picada" comme l'on dit au Chili: les marchés qui existent dans chaque ville (demandez pour le mercado central) là vous allez très bien manger. De plus l'ambiance est très animé, en général il y a des chanteurs... et tout cela pour 1000 pesos environ (évitez le vin et le café), et pour le dessert vous pourrez acheter quelques fruits pour presque rien au marché.
Devenez débrouillard, parlez avec les gens, voyez comme il fond... Avec cela vous allez "survivre" sans problème et en plus, le vraie Chile n'aurait plus des secrets pour vous.

Pour le travail je ne peux pas vous répondre, mais à priori je crois le gens et cette personne affirme avoir cela et je ne vois pas quelle raison il aurait pour l'inventer...
En revanche, concernant le repas pour 1000 pesos à Santiago, cela est le prix pour une colacion (1er prix) à la Vega Central.... mais bon, même si c'était 1500 pesos cela reste abordable. Alors que celle-ci était la question de la personne... De toute manière il devra voir sur place...
Moi ce qui me semble étonnant c'est que vous pensiez systématiquement que l'on est en train de vous mentir... Je vous invite à vous rendre sur place pour vérifier la veracité de mes propos et ensuite, seulement ensuite, les remettre en question.

Pour la vega central, sans doute, mais je traine pas dans ce coin. Au persa biobio, éminent populaire, on bouffe pas á ce prix là aujourd'hui !

En effet il me semble qu'il y a des débatteurs qui aiment faire monter l'affaire... Après tout chacun perds son temps comme il le souhaite. Ce qui me parait drôle c’est de me faire traiter de « mon garçon »… Cela fait des nombreuses années que personne ne s’était adressé à moi de la sorte… C’est drôle.
Je crois que globalement vous n'allez pas être en situation de tourisme, mais avec un travail, donc avec une insertion sociale immédiate... et cela est très bien.
Vous allez voir que les chiliens (que sont loin d’être parfaits) sont très solidaires et qu’ils aiment beaucoup le contact humain, surtout les personnes issues des classes populaires. Ne vous laissez pas intimider par leur première expression (regard) qui est souvent sévère car cela ne tiens pas longtemps.
Je vous conseille de tisser des liens et de vous appuyer sur cela pour comprendre et voir le pays… De toute manière ce qui est important à mon avis ce n’est pas de tout voir, mais de comprendre ce que l’on à vu…
Je suis certain que du point de vue financier, vous n’aurez pas des énormes problèmes.
Et franchement si vous voulez bien manger pour peu chère allez à la Vega Central. C’est un univers étonnant et attachant, un point de résistance culturelle où l’on vi à contresens de la mentalité dominant au Chili, et qui de plus, me rappelle personnellement le pays de mon enfance… Avant les Santiaguinos étaient comme cela…
Je vous mets en garde car cet endroit est mal vu par les classes moyennes… C’est du bon ton de mal parler de la Vega. Je vous conseille de faire un tour et de vous faire votre propre opinion (attention : jamais le soir), car finalement ce n'est qu'une question de gout...

Je continue de croire que les exiliados échappent aux logiques poussiereuses de ce côté-ci de la cordillera.
Une partie du rare oxygène que l'on respire par ici est insuflué par les retornados et autres profils internationaux.
Je suis assez triste finalement de croiser un contre exemple.
Le Chili c'est comme le Médoc, la Camargue ou la Corse. Des îles où l'espèce homo sapiens se spécifie et se singularise.

We’re thinking of one or two "escapes" from Rio—3-day trips to get away from the city (so not too far, max 3–4 hours by car or bus). We’re all ears for suggestions! We love beautiful nature and authentic experiences, not so much the touristy spots... even though those spots are often in beautiful places, we’d rather avoid them.

I’m planning a trip with my partner (no kids this time—thanks, Grandma!) for two weeks to celebrate her 40th birthday. I’ve been thinking about Chile. We’re looking at leaving around September 18, 2027, starting in the south and returning in early April.
Here’s what I had in mind:
8 nights in a van in the Lake District and the start of the Carretera Austral (up to the Chaitén area). We’re set to arrive in Puerto Montt around 2:00 PM. We don’t want to go too far south since we’re planning to explore the heart of Patagonia (Chile and Argentina) with the kids when they’re older. The idea is to spend 3 nights discovering the lakes (up to Cochamó) and 3 nights in Pumalín Park. I’ve also added two transition nights.
7 nights in the Atacama to experience another side of Chile (San Pedro), taking a domestic flight from Puerto Montt to Calama in the early afternoon. We’ll depart for France in the early evening from Santiago.
IMPORTANT NOTICE for those planning to take a bus to another city, state, or destination from Salvador!
Starting January 20, 2026, the intercity bus station Rodoviária is changing its address!
The Rodoviária is leaving the Iguatemi area and will now be located in ÁGUAS CLARAS (about twenty kilometers from downtown Salvador).
A brand-new station (the most modern in Brazil) has just been set up there, accessible by car/taxi/Uber/metro.
Allow for much more transfer time (especially during rush hours), so leave early if you're heading to Chapada Diamantina or other Brazilian cities by bus.
Remember, there are also private transfers (even French-speaking ones) that can take you directly from your hotel in Salvador to your hotel in Chapada. Sure, it’ll be more expensive, but you’ll save on transfer time and comfort.

We're planning a trip to southern Chile in November. Here's our tentative itinerary:
Day 1: Arrival in Santiago, then a flight the next day to Balmaceda where we'll pick up a rental car to reach Coyhaique.
Day 3: Walk in the Coyhaique National Reserve, then continue to Puerto Chacabuco. Return to Coyhaique for the second night.
Day 4: Drive to Villa Cerro Castillo for a hike in the national park. Continue to Puerto Tranquilo and stay there for 3 nights.
Day 5: Boat tour on Laguna San Rafael.
Day 6: Day trip to Monte San Valentin Glacier.
Day 7: Excursion to the Marble Chapels, then drive to Puerto Guadal. We'll stay there for 3 nights.
Day 8: Walk along Lago Carrera and return to Puerto Guadal.
Day 9: Rio Baker Valley and, if possible, a glacier excursion.
Day 10: Drive to Cochrane and hike in Tamango National Reserve. We'll stay 2 nights in Cochrane.
Day 11: Walk in the Chacabuco Valley.
Day 12: Drive to Caleta Tortel. We'll stay there for 2 nights.
Day 13: Cruise in the Rio Baker delta.
Day 14: Return to Cochrane.
Day 15: Return to Balmaceda in two stages.
Day 16: Continue the return journey.
Day 17: Return the rental car and head back to Santiago.
After this, we're also planning to explore northern Santiago. I'll post about that part once I have a clearer idea of the route.
What do you think of this itinerary? Is it doable in 17 days?

Hi everyone, French travelers in Chile—what credit cards do you use for your various car rentals in the country? I’m traveling in September and was planning to switch my regular debit card (a VISA PREMIER in deferred debit mode) for the deposit guarantee.
My rentals are with Figal in Punta Arenas, Econautos in Arica, and Chilean Rent a Car in Temuco, and all of them want the deposit on a credit card. For me, deferred debit *should* work, but I’ve read comments saying the opposite.
How’s it actually working on the ground with these rental companies right now? Will a deferred debit card work, or not at all?

From what I’ve found, there’s a *combi* (bus) that leaves from Puno to go to Llachon. Where do you catch it? What are the schedules and frequency? Does it take about 1 hour?
Then in Llachon, you can take a boat to Amantani (45 min). Same question—where do you check for frequency and schedule?
After that, from Amantani, boats go to Taquile and then Uros. Do you have enough time to visit the islands between two boats? Frequency and schedule?

I just got back from a trip to Bolivia and wow—what a wake-up call. It’s not the easiest country, but it’s absolutely stunning.
I started with Isla del Sol, perfect for easing into the altitude at a relaxed pace. Try to stay in the northern part of the island—it’s quieter and the views are insane. And the trout there? Unreal. Quick tip: bring cash in small bills; they almost never have change, and cards are rarely accepted.
Next up, La Paz. The city’s pretty wild, built in every direction. I did a few hikes in the area, including the famous Charquini Lagoon (the blue lake) at over 5,000 m—let’s just say I struggled 😅 but it was so beautiful it was totally worth it.
After that, I headed to Sajama. It’s cool, especially for the hot springs, and I stayed in Tomarapi. But honestly, if you’re short on time, you can skip it without too many regrets.
The highlight of the trip: the Salar. I did it starting from Tupiza, and I *highly* recommend going Tupiza → Uyuni. Way less crowded at the start and the landscapes are super varied. For the tour, I used SplitYourGuide to find a group, and it worked out great. Super handy for splitting costs and meeting people.
I wrapped up in Sucre—this city is gorgeous, all white, with such a chill vibe. And the salteñas + ice cream? Next level 😋
Bottom line: Bolivia’s a bit rough around the edges, sometimes exhausting (shoutout to the altitude), but it’s 1000% worth it.

I was planning to go to Réunion and stay in half-board accommodation with non-professionals, but it seems that’s not really the custom there—or maybe my budget isn’t big enough.
So, since I’ve already traveled around Ecuador and Peru, I’m now looking at Argentina, especially for its mountains (like the ones in Réunion that tempted me, even though—frustratingly—I could only admire them from below).
I plan to get around by bus and don’t know in advance where I’ll sleep, so I won’t book ahead. If I like a place, I might stay for several days.
I know that in Chile, it’s easy to find half-board accommodation, but what about in Argentina?
I’d like to stay with locals in half-board without it being a professional setup. I’m not sure if this is common practice there. It’s up to me to find someone willing to host me.
What do you think?
What would be a fair price (keeping in mind that 40 to 50 € is the max I can spend on accommodation, breakfast, and dinner)?

We’re heading to Patagonia for three weeks in November, starting from Coyhaique in Chile.
We won’t have a car, and I’m struggling to find information about transportation options for a few parts of the itinerary we’d like to do:
1) From Perito Moreno (the town, near Los Antiguos), we’d like to travel down Ruta 40 to visit Perito Moreno National Park and then cross into Chile via the Paso Roballos (at the latitude of Bajo Caracoles) to reach the road to Cochrane. Without a car, it seems we’ll need to use private agencies to get to the national park—do you have any recommendations or suggestions? Also, does anyone know if it’s possible to cross into Chile via Paso Roballos (from Bajo Caracoles) without a rental car? That is, without having to go all the way down to El Chaltén or back up toward Perito Moreno/Los Antiguos, etc.?
2) The second stretch that seems a bit tricky (though still easier, in theory) is from Caleta Tortel to Villa O’Higgins on the Chilean side. Do we have to go back through Cochrane, or are there ways to get directly from Tortel to Villa O’Higgins?
3) Finally, we’d like to hike into Argentina (El Chaltén) from O’Higgins. Any recommendations for this? Do we need to go through an agency? What’s the estimated duration of the trek?
As you’ve probably gathered, we want to visit some off-the-beaten-path spots but don’t have a car, so we’re looking for the best possible compromises.

we’re planning a round trip from San Pedro de Atacama, Chile, to Salta, Argentina, in two months. On the way there, we’ll take the northern route via Susques, Route 27, then 52. But for the return, we were thinking of taking the southern route via San Antonio de los Cobres, Route 51, then 23. Is it similar to the northern route in terms of road surface? How busy is it, and are there gas stations? Basically, should we be worried about doing it in an SUV that’s supposedly 4x4 but has regular road tires and no second spare wheel, obviously...
I’ve seen that we can stop over in San Antonio de los Cobres.

we’ll be in Calama at the end of March 2026, and I’m looking for a reliable car rental there for a 7-day road trip to Salta, Argentina. But I’m struggling with the car rental agencies in Calama because the reviews can be scary. I saw Gyg, which has great ratings, but I’m a bit wary (5/5 from 59 reviews—either the guy’s amazing or it’s fake...), but I can’t find any recent reviews on VF in general.
For Punta Arenas, I booked with Dachelet and didn’t have any issues with email exchanges.
