Visiting Abu Simbel from Aswan (Egypt)

Hi there,

I’ve booked a Nile cruise from Luxor to Aswan. The excursion to Abu Simbel is offered as an option, but for a family with 2 kids, it comes to 500 € for a lot of bus travel and very little time on site. Is it possible to find a local agency, taxi, or guide on the spot who’d offer the trip for less? Do we have to travel in a convoy? Thanks for your tips! Fred

Hello everyone, Yes, if you have the time, it's possible to find "agencies" that do this. Now, to respect the site's guidelines, I’ll give you a contact whose job includes "transport, accommodation, booking visits, etc." We’ve known this person for a very long time, and we always stay at his place on Elephantine Island, and it’s through his services that we go to Abu Simbel. There are two options: either a private car (just for you), but it’s more expensive, or—this is the option we always choose (when we’re not taking the bus)—a minibus, never overcrowded, with two drivers. Message him privately for his details. Thoutmosis

Hi Thoutmosis,

I’m planning a 5-week trip in November and I’d be interested in the contact details for the person who organizes transport to Abu Simbel, as well as the address of your accommodation on Elephantine Island. Thanks so much.

Sylvie.

Hello everyone, If you need any other info or details, it's no problem. Also, for Abu Simbel, are you going for the day or staying overnight? Thoutmosis

Hi, I’m interested in your contact for accommodation in Aswan on Elephantine Island.

Hi Boulin and Elojej, Yes, I have an extra contact—it’s his job. Like some people here organize all services for weddings, ceremonies, etc., he does the same. Plus, he books all your visits, transport, and accommodations. As he always says, we stay on Elephantine Island, facing the city. Just a heads-up: being on an island doesn’t mean it’s noise-free. In Egypt, there’s always some noise, but it’s definitely quieter—no cars, at least. Now, a little tip: if you have time, you can also buy your bus tickets at the bus station. The first bus leaves around 7 or 8 AM, depending on how full it is. Make sure to book at least 24 hours in advance to secure your spot for your dates. And, as mentioned, buy your round-trip tickets at the same time. If you take the bus, you can catch the 5 PM one back to Aswan—just double-check if that’s still the case, because in Egypt, plans change as often as shirts! The bus station is about 4.5 km north on the way to Darow, on a street to your right. At the corner, you’ll see Porto Suno restaurant and Diverso Café, starting from the road that leads to the train station. If possible, this option is much cheaper. Also, if you go with Mohammed, decide whether you want a private car (more expensive since it’s just for you) or a minibus (which is what we usually take for day trips—cheaper). The minibus is never overcrowded; they don’t exceed the passenger limit, and there are always two drivers. I’ll send this your way. For any other info, no problem—it’s always a pleasure to help. Thoutmosis
