Culture
While there is such a thing as "Southern culture" (sometimes a bit "edgy" on certain points...), it isn’t always very visible or accessible to foreign visitors. That said, for the general public, you can still explore the many plantations nestled along rivers (Louisiana, Mississippi) or towns with classic Old South architecture like Savannah (Georgia), Charleston (South Carolina), or Natchez (Mississippi). Add to that states like Louisiana with its Cajuns and bayous, the must-visit Tennessee for music (Memphis and Nashville), or further north, Virginia, rich in history from the Independence era and the Civil War. In short, plenty to fuel a culturally rich journey...
Relaxation-Holidays
With thousands of kilometers of coastline on both the Atlantic and the Gulf of Mexico, the region offers plenty of beach areas with all the usual activities. And for those who prefer the countryside or mountains, the inland areas—especially the Appalachian range—are also an option. While the main audience is North American, the Southern United States—or at least certain spots—remains a top destination for beach, countryside, or mountain vacations.
Beaches and Coastal Resorts

Every state with a coastline has beaches and resorts that draw massive local crowds in the warmer months. From the Texas coast to the borders of Florida (Gulf Shores & Orange Beach in Alabama, Gulfport in Mississippi), there’s plenty of choice along the Gulf of Mexico. Meanwhile, on the Atlantic coast, the barrier islands (Georgia and South Carolina), Myrtle Beach, and Crystal Coast (the Carolinas), or even Virginia Beach (Virginia) are known for their beaches, water sports, and, in some places, lively atmosphere, especially in season.
Note that given the region’s size, water temperatures vary depending on where you go. While only summer months offer pleasant swimming on the northern Atlantic coast, elsewhere you can generally expect to swim from April to early November.
