Accommodation in Barbados
Location Map of Barbados
Overview of the Offer
Unlike other islands, accommodation in Barbados consists of a mix of large hotels and upscale establishments, some of which are all-inclusive, as well as small family-run guesthouses with much more affordable rates. As always on small islands, the best solution is to choose a single base for your entire stay. This makes weekly rentals, such as apartments or villas, a viable option.
Hotels and All-Inclusive
Hotels are plentiful on the island, ranging from mid-range to high-end. They primarily cater to an Anglo-Saxon beachgoing clientele, particularly from the US, which makes up the island’s largest tourist contingent, along with the prices that come with it. In short, nightly rates rarely drop below $150, which strongly encourages opting for weekly packages or those including other services when available.
Guesthouses
Alongside these higher-end establishments, Barbados also has a network of guesthouses or family-run pensions with much more affordable rates, roughly $40–50 for a double room at the lowest price. While they may offer less comfort or a "prime location," they still provide good value for budget travelers.
Other Options
Homestays
Camping
There is no camping in Barbados.
Apartments and Villas
This is a good option if you’re staying for at least a week. It offers more freedom than a hotel, usually allows you to cook your own meals, and is often cheaper—though, as with everything on the island, all levels of comfort and quality are available. For the most budget-friendly options, rentals are often owner-occupied.
Choosing Your Accommodation
If you haven’t opted for an all-inclusive (or rental) for the week, the best choice is to find a small guesthouse.
