Accommodation in Guadeloupe
Location Map of Guadeloupe
Overview of the Offer
In recent years, accommodation in Guadeloupe has undergone a certain "transformation", with a reduction (or selection?) in hotel capacity, particularly large complexes, and an increase in the number of gîtes, which now represent a growing share of the options. Ultimately, this may also mean better quality or even value for many of the establishments now available. However, accommodation can be expensive during the high season when prices rise. In any case, it is increasingly useful to book in advance.
As is often the case on small islands, the best option is to choose a single base for your stay and opt for weekly offers or "flight + accommodation" packages, which are significantly more cost-effective.
Hotels and All-Inclusive
For a tourist island, Guadeloupe does not have many hotels, or they tend to be "high-end" or specialized in all-inclusive packages. Generally, their rates (rarely below 100 €) strongly encourage opting for weekly packages or those including other services. Otherwise, it may be better to choose a different type of accommodation.
Gîtes
Increasingly popular, gîtes are often the most suitable accommodation option for many visitors. They offer more freedom, generally in a comfortable (though not necessarily charming) and well-equipped setting, allowing you to cook your own meals. Typically, the owners handle the welcome and can assist or advise during your stay. However, note that under the "gîte" label, you may also find some guest rooms.
Many of Guadeloupe’s gîtes (400 of them) are certified by Gîtes de France. In most cases, especially during the high season, they are rented by the week, and it’s necessary to book early during peak periods. Expect to pay at least 250 € per week for the lowest-priced options outside the high season.
Other Options
Apartments and Villas
It is also possible to find rentals for houses, apartments, or studios, whether through agencies or private listings, resulting in a wide range of quality and prices. For the latter, expect to pay around 200–250 € per week for the lowest-priced options. Note that home exchanges between Guadeloupe and mainland France are also possible.
Camping
There are no campsites in Guadeloupe. Wild camping is also prohibited and not recommended for safety reasons.
Which Accommodation to Choose?
Gîtes are generally the best accommodation choice, particularly in terms of value for money with their weekly packages. For those who prefer a "beachfront hotel", the all-inclusive system will be the most appealing.
