Accommodation in Montenegro
FR

Overview of the offer

Logically, it's the coastal tourist area that benefits from the best and largest accommodation capacity, with hotels of varying quality, rentals, campsites, and homestays. Overall, the offer generally provides good value and is still quite affordable (though prices are starting to align with neighbouring Croatia), even in summer when it's still best to book for the "best" options.

Inland or in the mountains, accommodation options are fewer, though you can always find homestays. On this topic, any foreigner staying with locals must normally declare their presence at the local police station.

Hotels

With the tourist influx in recent years, the standard of many hotels has improved, as has the country's hotel capacity. Of course, the change is most visible along the coast, where there are now more mid-to-high-end options than budget ones. Inland, things are a bit different, with more limited capacity. Expect at least 30 € for a double room at the lowest price.

All-inclusive

A few options on the coast, in seaside resorts like Budva or Bar.

Camping

There are around fifty campsites, mostly along the coast, most of which only open during the summer season. Quite often, campsites can be a bit crowded but remain an economical way to sleep. Count around a dozen euros for two people plus a car. That said, camping is mainly a solution when you're looking for the cheapest option, as for just a little more, you can often find small hotels or homestays.

Homestays

Any foreigner, regardless of nationality, travelling to Montenegro and staying with locals must normally declare their presence at the local police station. That said, homestays are very common throughout the country. Generally, the rooms offered provide good value for money, with rates between 20 € and 30 € for a double room as a solid first choice, depending on the location and season. Of all the possible accommodation options, staying with locals remains the most appealing in many ways.

Which accommodation to choose?

Staying with locals is a great idea for Montenegro, both in terms of price, the wide range of choices, and the chance to meet the local population. Otherwise, you can always opt for small hotels, though they tend to be more impersonal.
