Overview of the Offer
The choice of accommodation is not very diverse in the country and becomes even more limited once you move away from the main urban areas. Moreover, aside from camping, other types of accommodation quickly become quite expensive.
Hotels of All Kinds
Hotels and Guesthouses
You can find hotels and guesthouses in cities and tourist areas. Generally, prices are quite high and start at around 35/40 € for a double room in the most "basic" options.
Lodges and Park Accommodations
Mostly luxurious, lodges are located in parks and other natural areas. Here too, prices are substantial, starting at 100/150 € per night. Apart from lodges, some parks also offer bungalows or slightly cheaper hotel-style accommodations. There are also more camping options.
Camping
Camping is the most common type of accommodation in Namibia, in cities but especially in nature and parks. It is also the cheapest and offers the best value given the facilities typically available at campsites. Expect to pay roughly 15 to 20 € per night for two, though prices are logically higher in national parks or their surroundings. Generally, camping is a great way to explore the country. Additionally, when renting a vehicle, you can choose models equipped with a "roof-top tent," which is very useful and often comes with all the necessary camping gear (sometimes at an extra cost). In any case, in the most popular parks and sites (Sesriem, Etosha, etc.), it is essential to book well in advance during the season to secure a spot.
As for wild camping, while it is allowed on communal land (but not in parks), it is not necessarily recommended due to safety concerns, including risks from certain animals.
Staying with Locals
This is traditionally a practice found on farms in rural areas. Expect to pay at least 40 to 50 € per night for two. There are also bed and breakfast (B&B) options in cities.
Which Accommodation to Choose?
Camping is generally the most popular choice among visitors. Offering good value compared to other options, it provides more freedom when traveling outside cities, especially when renting a vehicle equipped with a "roof-top tent" and its accompanying gear.
