Accommodation in the Czech Republic
Location Map of Czech Republic
Overview of the offer
As in most European countries, the range of accommodation is quite rich and varied, catering to different budgets. You’ll find the full spectrum of hotels, motels, youth hostels, guesthouses, campsites, house or apartment rentals, and even university residences open to the public during summer holidays. There are also options for staying on small boats on lakes and rivers, and even nights in castles. In short, there’s something for every taste and budget—though booking ahead in Prague is almost essential if you want to find a good deal, especially since prices can nearly double during the summer season or around Christmas.
Hotels
Motels
Much like in the USA, motorists (it’s best to have a vehicle) will find relatively inexpensive—but rather impersonal—motels along highways and busy roads.
"Castle hotels"
Youth hostels and "hostels"
Whether traditional youth hostels or small guesthouses, this type of accommodation is quite common across the country, starting in major cities. It generally offers the most budget-friendly option or the best value for money for backpackers (though service and comfort can vary from one place to another), with dorm beds (10/15 € per person) or private rooms starting at 25/30 €. As usual, booking ahead is wise in peak season and in the capital.
Camping
Homestays
Other options
University residences
As in other Eastern European countries, university accommodation is available to tourists from late June to September. These options are usually found in all major cities with universities—around a dozen across the country.

Which accommodation to choose?
Homestays, small guesthouses, and, to a lesser extent, camping (especially if you have a vehicle) are generally the best choices, offering the best value for money overall.
