For a decade (2009–2019), the Zimbabwean dollar was abandoned by local authorities in favor of the US dollar (officially), along with other strong currencies like the euro, British pound, or South African rand (less officially). It was reintroduced in mid-2019. Note that while this new currency exists in physical form, it also has an electronic version.
