Other practical information for the Midwest and Great Plains
Luggage and equipment to bring
While you can opt for light clothing in summer, still pack a light sweater. For the rest of the year—and especially in winter—plan accordingly. Also think about sun and rain protection (regardless of the season), mosquito and midge repellent, and good shoes if you plan to hike.

Time difference
The Midwest/Great Plains region spans three time zones, though most of the area is on "Central Time."
- "Eastern Time": for Ohio and large parts of Indiana and Michigan.
- "Central Time": for the majority of the region.
- "Mountain Time": only applies to the western edges of the two Dakotas, Nebraska, and Kansas.
