Climate and Weather in New Caledonia
Location Map of New Caledonia
Climate Overview
New Caledonia has a tropical oceanic climate, which is temperate and sunny. In practice, the year is divided into two main seasons with two short transitional periods in between.
The austral summer, or "cyclone season" (especially between February and the end of March), is the hot and humid season running from late November to early April. This is when temperatures are highest, and rain and wind are most frequent, particularly on the east coast, which receives far more rainfall than the west coast. In contrast, the austral winter is the cool season, roughly from mid-May to mid-September. Temperatures and humidity are lower then, though rainy days remain common.
Best Time to Visit New Caledonia
While the archipelago enjoys a temperate and sunny climate year-round, the transitional period from mid-September to November is ideal, though May-June is also a good time.
