Climate and Weather in Guadeloupe
Climate Overview
The archipelago has a relatively mild climate, and the heat is never excessive (though it can feel somewhat oppressive at certain times of the year), with daytime temperatures year-round ranging between 27 and 31°C and nighttime temperatures between 20 and 23°C. Additionally, the trade winds from the east and northeast make the atmosphere even more pleasant. As is often the case at higher altitudes, around La Soufrière, you can feel a certain coolness.
Guadeloupe has two distinct seasons with "intermediate" periods. The dry season runs from February to April. It is called "Carême" (Lent) because it begins around Carnival. This is the most pleasant time to visit, with fine weather and just a few occasional showers. In contrast, the wet season, known as "hivernage," brings oppressive heat when the trade winds aren’t blowing and, above all, frequent afternoon rains. This period, from June to November, is the least favorable for visiting, especially since it is also hurricane season, which can affect the island, particularly from August to early October.
Other specific features of Guadeloupe’s climate include rapid changes from sunshine to rain with a drop in temperature, and the east coast being wetter than the west coast. As for the sea, its temperature is always very pleasant.
Best Time to Visit Guadeloupe
The period from February to April is ideal if you want to avoid too much rain, occasional mugginess, or hurricanes, which can hit the island, especially from August to October.
