Climate and Weather in Malta
FR

Climate Overview

Malta's climate is strongly influenced by the sea, with year-round mildness and especially abundant sunshine, even in winter when the sun shines for an average of five or six hours. In short, it never gets cold in winter (average 15°C), though the weather can be a bit windy and rainy, as is often the case at the end of the year. In summer, sea breezes soften the heat, particularly in July and August, the hottest months, when temperatures can exceed 30°C.

Best Time to Visit Malta Weather-Wise

The climate isn’t a major constraint for visiting Malta, though winter can be slightly cool and July-August sometimes a bit hot. The shoulder seasons are therefore the most comfortable times to visit.

Sea Temperatures Throughout the Year

The sea starts to become pleasant from April-May and remains so until nearly the second half of autumn. In winter, even though the Mediterranean is far from freezing, the rather cool northerly winds lower both air and water temperatures.
