Quebec is vast, so its climate is divided into four zones and varies significantly from one region to another. It is directly influenced by latitude, terrain, and maritime effects.

From south to north, you’ll find humid continental climate, subarctic climate, and Arctic climate. The maritime climate of the east is tied to the Îles-de-la-Madeleine.

As a result, average temperatures range from 5°C to 25°C in summer and from -10°C to -25°C in winter. During intense heat waves, temperatures can easily rise to 35°C. Conversely, during extreme cold snaps, they can drop below -35°C.

Spring begins on March 20. The weather grows milder, the snow melts, and nature gradually comes back to life.

At the summer solstice, around June 20, summer arrives and typically remains warm until the end of August. Heatwaves and strong thunderstorms can occur during this season.

Autumn officially starts on September 21. Daytime temperatures are still pleasant, but evenings tend to be cooler. Forests turn vibrant colors, offering a spectacular display. In November, leaves fall, temperatures drop, and the chance of rain or snow increases.

Winter begins on December 21. It is generally cold, long, and snowy. Wind can also intensify the feeling of cold.

Best Time to Visit Quebec

Quebec is a year-round destination. However, the most favorable period for visiting is from May to October, when temperatures are more pleasant. That said, winter offers the chance to see Quebec covered in snow and enjoy activities like snowmobiling, skiing, snowshoeing, skating, dog sledding, and ice fishing.
