Religion

Although religion was somewhat sidelined in the early years of the Castro era before freedom of worship was restored in 1992, Cuba remains a predominantly Catholic country at 85%, with minorities from various Protestant churches and a small Jewish community. At least officially—because in reality, it is mainly santería that attracts the most followers. Similar to voodoo, it blends African beliefs brought by enslaved people with Catholicism. Beyond being a religion, santería also borders on a "philosophy" that brings Cubans together.
