Entry Requirements and Visa for Bhutan
FR

Travelers

For tourist travel.

For French Citizens

A passport and a visa are required. The visa must be requested at least 15 days before departure through—exclusively and obligatorily—one of the nearly one thousand travel agencies approved by the Bhutanese government or their representatives abroad. This applies even if you plan to travel independently, which, in a way, isn’t truly possible since a driver and a guide are mandatory for visitors. Upon arrival in the country, a 15-day visa will be issued for $20.

Additionally, Bhutan requires visitors to spend a minimum daily amount through their approved agency handling the stay. This is $200 in the low season (January–February, June, July, August, and December) or $250 in the high season (the rest of the year). This amount covers accommodation in a 3-star hotel, meals, a guide and driver, entry to certain sites, local taxes, and the tourism fee. Note that this sum may increase by $40 if traveling alone or by $30 if in a group of 2 to 4 people.
