Entry Requirements and Visa for Iran
FR

People

For tourist travel purposes.

For French Citizens

A passport and visa (maximum 30 days validity) are mandatory. Additionally, a form must be completed upon arrival, which will be requested at departure (so do not lose it).

For the visa, processing can sometimes be lengthy and requires applying in advance. Since fingerprints are taken from the applicant during the request, it is mandatory to be present when submitting the application. Note that for French citizens and a few other nationalities, it is generally possible to obtain a visa (30 days; 75 €) directly upon arrival at certain Iranian airports, provided you have pre-registered on the approved site. However, as this procedure can be uncertain, it is safer to obtain your visa before departure.

Long Stays

If the stay exceeds the authorized number of days, the traveler may be prevented from leaving Iranian territory and may be subject to a fine equivalent to 8–10 € per day beyond the visa’s expiration date.

Restricted or "Controlled" Areas

Travel to Iran and Entry to the United States

Traveling to Iran, even for tourism, since March 1, 2011, no longer allows eligibility for the U.S. visa waiver program. In all cases, travelers must apply for a visa through the American consular authorities if they plan to visit the U.S. afterward.
