Entry Requirements and Visa for Laos
Location Map of Laos
Travelers
For French Citizens
For tourist travel, a passport valid for at least 6 months after your planned departure date and a visa are required. The visa, valid for 30 days, can be obtained in advance from Laotian representations abroad or online via the approved site (for the equivalent of $50), as well as on arrival at select land border crossings or international airports ($40 payable in cash).
Additionally, there is now a form called the "Lao Digital Immigration Form" (LDIF) to complete online no later than 3 days before arrival. This form provides a QR code that must be presented upon arrival in Laos.
Other Nationalities
The same requirements apply to most other Europeans, except Swiss citizens, who are exempt from a visa for stays of up to 15 days.
Long Stays
For tourist stays, the visa can be renewed twice on-site for 30 days each time. This is done at immigration offices in the capital or major cities, at a rate of $2 per additional day requested.
In Case of Violation
A penalty of $10 per day is applied for overstaying your visa. This may also result in a future entry ban.
