For French Citizens
After being visa-exempt for two years, nationals from 42 countries including France must once again obtain a visa before traveling to Mongolia as of 2016. This visa must be arranged prior to the trip and allows a stay of up to 30 days ("short-stay" visa; 60 €). The visa must be used within 3 months of its issue date. In addition to the visa, a passport valid for at least six months beyond the entry date is required.

Russian and Chinese Visas from Mongolia
Some travelers pass through Mongolia, particularly via the Trans-Mongolian Railway, to travel from Russia to China or vice versa. Each of these countries requires a visa. However, it is no longer theoretically possible to obtain a Russian or Chinese visa in Ulaanbaatar (nor at the borders). In short, it is strongly recommended to arrange your visas beforehand.
