For French Nationals
For tourist travel, French nationals and other Europeans, along with certain nationalities such as Canadians, do not require a visa for stays of up to 3 months. A passport is sufficient as long as its validity extends at least 6 months beyond the planned entry date. That said, Senegalese authorities may introduce a "reciprocity" system for entry requirements in the future, potentially implementing a paid e-visa, particularly for Europeans. While nothing is confirmed yet, it’s wise to stay informed before departure.
Additionally, travel insurance, a return or onward ticket, and proof of accommodation may occasionally be requested upon arrival, though this is rare. Similarly, a yellow fever vaccination may theoretically be required if arriving directly from a high-risk area.
Long Stays
For stays exceeding 3 months (especially beyond six), you must apply for a residency card at the Directorate of Foreign Police in Dakar. This card is valid for up to 5 years before renewal.
Alternatively, you can request an extension of stay from the authorities if you only slightly exceed the 90-day limit. There’s also the well-known "visa run," which involves leaving the country every 90 days and re-entering to secure an additional 3 months. However, while this practice is tolerated, it is not a guaranteed right. Each time, you risk refusal by authorities with no recourse.
In Case of Violation
Overstaying the 90-day limit without a visa will result in a minimum fine upon departure.
Vehicles
It is possible to bring your vehicle into Senegal, provided it is generally under 10 years old and you do not plan to stay longer than 6 months, subject to certain conditions.
