Entry Requirements and Visa for Vietnam

For French Citizens

To facilitate tourism, entry requirements for Vietnam have been significantly simplified, particularly for European nationals. Since 2023, French citizens are exempt from visas for stays of up to 45 days, regardless of the purpose of travel. In this case, only a passport valid for six months beyond the planned entry date is required, along with proof of onward travel.

Other Nationalities

Nearly thirty other nationalities enjoy the same benefits as French citizens, including most European Union nationals—but not Canadians.

Long Stays

If you plan to stay in Vietnam for more than 45 days as a tourist, an e-visa is mandatory. This can be obtained online and allows for a total stay of up to 90 days (effectively 45 additional days), with the option of a single entry (25 €) or multiple entries (50 €). Note that any visa application or extension must be completed outside the country—it cannot be done once you are in Vietnam.

In Case of Overstay

Overstaying your permitted time in Vietnam may result in a fine upon departure. The fine is fixed and calculated based on the number of days exceeded. Additionally, you may face a future entry ban.
