Flying to Cape Verde
General Information
Cape Verde has one main international airport, Amílcar Cabral on the island of Sal, and several secondary airports across the archipelago. While these primarily serve inter-island domestic traffic, those in São Vicente, Praia, and Boa Vista also offer a few international connections.
Overall, the Cape Verde archipelago enjoys fairly good air coverage, particularly to Europe and France. This is thanks to its national airline, Cabo Verde Airlines, as well as other regular and low-cost carriers like Transavia and easyJet.
From France
In recent years, Cape Verde has become a popular destination for French travellers (and others), leading to a significant improvement in air connections. While it used to be necessary to transit through Portugal—whether from France or elsewhere—to catch a flight with TAP Air Portugal or the national Cape Verdean airline, that’s no longer the case.
Even though that option still exists, Sal Airport is now directly connected to Paris via Transavia or Cabo Verde Airlines, as well as to four or five regional cities. São Vicente also has flights from Paris, while Boa Vista is served seasonally from Nantes, Toulouse, Bordeaux, and Orly. Marseille and Orly also offer departures to the capital, Praia. In short, there’s now a good range of choices worth considering.
From Elsewhere
As with France, you’ll find a variety of seasonal options from several European countries. For those looking to transit through Africa, it’s entirely possible via Morocco (Casablanca), Senegal (Dakar), or Gran Canaria, which has flights to and from Cape Verde.
