Moscow Airports
Moscow is one of the cities in the world with the most airports, more or less close to its urban area. Out of all of them, four serve commercial purposes:
- Moscow Sheremetyevo Airport: this is Moscow’s primary hub, with over 45 million passengers per year and one of the busiest in the world.
- Moscow Domodedovo Airport: the oldest airport in the region. However, it has been overtaken in traffic by Sheremetyevo.
- Vnukovo International Airport: the third most important airport in the Russian capital. It mainly handles domestic flights, to/from the Middle East, as well as some Western European destinations and more distant seasonal routes.
- Moscow Zhukovsky Airport: the newest of Moscow’s commercial airports. It opened to traffic in 2016 to accommodate a few airlines, including Ural, which serves France among other destinations.
