Getting Around Turks and Caicos
FR

Between the Islands

While North and Middle Caicos are connected by road, all other islands are separated from their neighbors and require taking a plane or boat.

By Air

There are several flights daily between Providenciales and Grand Turk, operated by InterCaribbean Airways and Caicos Express Airways. The flight time between islands is approximately half an hour.

Otherwise, the remaining inhabited islands generally have connections to Providenciales International Airport, and there is also service between Grand Turk and Salt Cay. As is common in the region, in addition to regular flights, charter flights are available on demand for travel between islands.

By Boat

Beyond private boat or sailboat charters, there are a few ferry routes in the archipelago with two companies. Notably, there is no regular ferry service between Providenciales and Grand Turk, despite these being the two most active islands.

  • Salt Cay Ferry: operates between Grand Turk and Salt Cay three or four times a week (30 to 45 minutes at sea; $12 round trip, as the route is subsidized).
  • TCI Ferries: handles routes between Providenciales and South Caicos (75-minute journey, twice weekly; $60 one way) or Middle/North Caicos (25 minutes, several times daily; $25 one way).

Car Rental

Providenciales is the main place (along with Grand Turk) to rent a car from local or international companies. Visitors from Commonwealth countries, including Canada, and the U.S. only need their national driver’s license, while all others must have an international permit. This allows driving for up to 30 days on the islands. Note that while driving is on the left in Turks and Caicos, many vehicles originate from the U.S., where driving is on the right with left-hand drive.
