Scams and "Tourist" Harassment

As in Cuba or Thailand, the business of marrying a foreigner to gain certain advantages is thriving in Cameroon. Unfortunately, based on numerous accounts, this often quickly leads to repeated financial requests from the future spouse and their family, or even outright scams. Socio-Political Risks and Terrorism

Like many other countries in the region, Cameroon faces an unstable situation with the presence of armed groups (including those linked to Boko Haram), primarily active in the northern part of the country. If you encounter problems while traveling abroad, your country’s consular services can assist you. It’s also worth noting that if you are a citizen of the European Union and your country is not represented, you can contact any other EU member state’s representation.
