Health and Safety in Myanmar

Official Recommendations

In France, both for individuals and professionals, the "travel advice" from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding precautions for each country has legal value. A similar online travel advice system exists in several countries:

Socio-Political Risks and Terrorism

Socio-political insecurity has almost always been a constant in Myanmar. From anti-government guerrillas to inter-ethnic tensions, the country has suffered—and still suffers—from multiple conflicts across more or less significant parts of its territory, depending on the period. In short, it remains essential to stay vigilant and keep informed about local situations in the areas you plan to visit.

Restricted or High-Risk Areas

The entire border region with China (Kachin and Shan states) is advised against or even off-limits, as is the northern part of the Thai border (also be cautious in the southern part) and the borders with Bangladesh and even India. In all cases, clashes occur between armed groups and/or government troops.

Foreign Consulates in Myanmar

If you encounter problems while traveling abroad, your country’s consular services can assist you. It’s also worth noting that if you’re an EU citizen and your country isn’t represented, you can contact any other EU member state’s representation.
