Overview of Astana (Nur-Sultan)
The second-largest city in Kazakhstan has been the capital only since 1997. In 2019, it was officially renamed Nur-Sultan in honor of the former dictator Nursultan Nazarbayev, who ruled the country uncontested for three decades.
