Tourism

In the midst of a "socio-political transition" in recent years, Myanmar is increasingly establishing itself as a major destination in Southeast Asia, despite ongoing issues in certain regions. Less off-the-beaten-path than it once was, the country now attracts a new and broad audience of nature and/or culture enthusiasts. In fact, its visitor numbers have nearly quintupled between 2010 and 2018!

Currently, Myanmar welcomes around 3.5 million visitors per year (3.551 million in 2018). Thailand, China, Japan, and the United States are the top sources of tourists, while France represents the leading European market for Myanmar, with nearly 50,000 annual arrivals.
