Tourism

This part of China, north of Beijing, is far from the country’s most visited region (though local ski resorts do have their following). A harsh climate, vast untouched expanses in some areas, often unappealing cities, and a relatively limited heritage—aside from a few religious buildings or traces of Russian "colonisation"—help explain this limited interest, particularly among Western tourists. Still, Inner Mongolia and the Gobi Desert will always appeal to those seeking off-the-beaten-track nature and adventure.
