Kalimantan, Moluccas and Sulawesi
FR
These three island groups in the north/northeast of Indonesia are rarely visited. Not always easy to travel through, and locally or occasionally unsafe, tourists generally prefer other regions of the country. Nevertheless, adventurous nature lovers will find plenty to explore off the beaten track, particularly in Kalimantan—the Indonesian part of Borneo—with its many national parks featuring tropical forests home to orangutan populations. Beyond that, the Toraja region (on Sulawesi), where strong traditions endure, is sure to capture attention.
