Lesotho Climate and Weather
Location Map of Lesotho
Climate Overview
Lesotho's climate is highly variable at all levels, with a rainy season characterized by short, sometimes violent thunderstorms from November to March, and a dry season the rest of the year.
The rainy season (austral summer) sees the highest temperatures, often exceeding 30°C during the day in the capital, while nights remain cool. During the austral winter, temperatures drop sharply with altitude, nights are freezing, and snow is relatively common across much of the country. During the rainy season or winter, some tracks may become impassable.
Best Climate Period for Lesotho
Defining the best time to visit Lesotho is difficult due to the climatic constraints present throughout the year. However, the austral winter (particularly June–July), with its cold and snow, is best avoided. The period from mid-September to early May is preferable, even though strong thunderstorms are always possible during the austral summer.
