Other Practical Information for Sweden
Location Map of Sweden
Luggage and Equipment to Bring
In summer, pack fairly light seasonal clothing, but also walking shoes, a warm woollen layer for evenings or the north, plus rain gear and mosquito protection. In winter, bring appropriate clothing that primarily protects against wind and dampness in addition to the cold.
Communications
Telephone
International dialling code: (00 +) 46.
Internet
As in the rest of Europe, the internet is well developed, and Wi-Fi is widely available in many hotels, bars, restaurants, airports, train stations, and other public places.
Post
In Sweden, post offices are integrated into grocery stores with the same opening hours as the shops they are located in. For mail, posting a letter or postcard to the rest of Europe costs roughly 1 €. Stamps are sold at post offices and newsstands.
Time Difference
Local time: .
Sweden, like its neighbours (except Finland) and France, is on UTC+1. There is therefore no time difference with them, except for Finland, which is one hour ahead.
Electricity
230 V (50 Hz) with "French" plugs (officially type F), which will require an adapter for North American plugs.
Opening Hours
Shops are generally open from 9:30 AM to 6:00 PM on weekdays and until 2:00 PM/4:00 PM on Saturdays. In some large cities, these hours may be extended, with occasional Sunday openings between 12:00 PM and 4:00 PM.
Laundry
Public laundromats are very rare in Sweden because most apartment buildings have a shared laundry room, and household washing machine ownership is very high. However, most hotels offer laundry services for their guests. Similarly, many youth hostels, holiday villages, and campsites have washing machines.

Weights and Measures
Sweden uses the metric and decimal system, like France.
French Language Use
When it comes to foreign languages, Swedes generally speak English very well, and many also speak German. French, however, is rarely spoken, so it’s best to have at least a basic grasp of English (or German) for independent travel.
